House GOP actually passed a bill that would reopen DHS, but ok 🧐 Would be more accurate for NYT to say House GOP rejected Senate bill that left ICE & CBP unfunded, passed rival bill Why does the distinction matter? Ending the shutdown on this “deal” would come at the expense of ICE & CBP civilian support staff, who are still not being paid - despite the frontline law enforcement officers being funded thru 2029 under OBBB. Staff would have been permanently locked out under the Senate deal, unless/until R’s can pass a second reconciliation bill. Which looks like a loooong uphill battle.

As a season ticket owner in the ‘90s I can attest this is true. There was a time when we looked back on Don DeVoe’s 5 NCAA bids in a row as the thing Vols were trying to get back to, and winning 2 NCAA games in one year only happened once in the 1900s. These are the golden years.

Anybody who’s followed @Vol_Hoops for the past 50 years gets it, the scope of what Rick Barnes has done with a program that has produced great players and great moments, but never this kind of elite consistency. Yes, there’s still the white whale, the Final Four. But there was a time when the mere idea of three straight Elite 8’s on Rocky Top would have been like saying the university was going to order the band to never play the song again.

I said what I said on the Senate Floor yesterday and I meant every word of it.
A lot has happened in the last 24 hours, none of it changes the basic truth: the Democrats shutting down DHS in the middle of ongoing combat operations abroad and terror-linked attacks at home is reckless and dangerous.
