@icmteaching This is wrong. Edema and hypovolemia can coexist at steady state. Nephrotic syndrome cirrhosis, sepsis w/cap leak, and malnutrition all produce low onc pressure + low effective circulating volume w/ edema. Pc isn’t the only driver—πc, permeability, and lymphatic limits matter.

@rbarbosa91 The wall is significantly thinner for polyurethane pigtails than surgical tubes. I’ve been wanting to do this study for a while to look at flow comparison m. My guess is that a 14 French pigtail would be similar to 20 French PVC or silicone surgical tube.

Technical note about the ’14 Fr’ chest tubes now popular in Trauma: The ’14’ may be a bit of a euphemism, as the inner diameter of the tube is closer to 9 Fr, and the diameter of the narrowest point (the stopcock) is even a bit smaller than that. 🤔🧐

@liz_churchill10 Bullshit. This is the typical findings in a 21 year old with testicular cancer and the classic “cannon ball Mets” to the lung. I have seen this exact presentation like 100 times in the last 20 years, well before COVID was a thing.

@GersonPaull_MD @doclauravater I think all of them. It’s mandated by the ACGME. That being said the people who become doctors are often type A and it can be hard to get them to admit they need help and utilize those resources.

In the first year of residency, interns have a fivefold increase in rates of depression compared to fourth-year medical students. We must continue to support the mental health of all doctors.
