It’s not every day that I get to deliver an assembly in a church… but that’s what happens whenever I visit Wilden All Saints Primary!!! The church itself is magnificent, as are all the pupils and teachers at this school. I had a super day there once again, following my assembly with workshops for every year group. We gave out SO MANY certificates, and Eliza was the proud winner of my dragon prize. (I have no doubt she’ll be a published author herself one day!) Getting up at 4.30am, hitting the road at 6am, then driving for two and a half hours before launching into an assembly followed by over four hours of workshops isn’t for the faint-hearted. But that was what I had to do in order to deliver my FREE whole-day school visit at Weaver Primary in Nantwich today. And I’m so pleased that I did!!! This school is practically perfect in every way: impeccably polite, courteous, respectful, and enthusiastic pupils; fully engaged and involved teachers; and an abundance of talent from Reception right through to Year 6. Choosing who to award certificates to was an impossible task because EVERYONE deserved one. And deciding who to award my dragon prize to was even trickier… congratulations, James!!! Thank you to all at Weaver Primary for a phenomenal day. Your school now has a very special place in my heart, and I’m so pleased to have been invited to spend today with you. I’m shattered yet elated after such a wonderful day. But having not long completed the arduous drive, there’s sadly no time for me to relax, as I’ve another FREE school visit tomorrow, which I now need to print, prep, and pack for. I love it when schools dream up ways to keep their pupils excited about books. St Peter’s Primary in Harborne launched a book cover competition following my recent author visit, and there were over 70 entries in total!!! If anyone knows how to launch an event, it’s Julian at @WaterstonesCroy. He organised a fantastic fortnight of World Book Day school visits, which I was fortunate enough to be a part of yesterday. With around 360 pupils and their teachers visiting the store between 9.30am and 2.30pm, it was non-stop bookish fun all day long! Thank you, Julian, for inviting me to join in with the celebrations. Thank you to all the teachers for bringing your classes along yesterday. And huge thanks to all the pupils for your fabulous questions.
