Kicking off the second day of Feeding Quality Forum, Glen Dolezal (@Cargill Protein) shares expected challenges in procurement and operations, what cattlemen can expect in the coming years.

Our dinner conversation at Feeding Quality Forum explores the relationship of food distributors and restaurants, the complexities of feeding customers and growing business. Panelists include Lane Rosenberry of @Sysco Lincoln and TJ and Tifini Olson of Round The Bend Steakhouse.

USDA AMS is working to update resources to grade beef carcasses, including those with Abundant (Prime+) marbling scores. Technology is also being leveraged to explore implementation of remote grading in small harvest plants.

As we entered July, the beef industry experienced lower demand due to summer travel and lighter meals. Cutout values are expected to stabilize soon. Carcass weights found their bottom in Q2, with the Prime grade showing improvement.

The fed cattle market remains strong, with northern feedlots receiving $188/cwt. last week, a $2/cwt. increase. Texas and Kansas feedlots also saw a $2/cwt. boost, reaching an average of $180/cwt.
