What if battery waste could help tackle plastic pollution? ♻️ Cambridge scientists have developed a solar-powered reactor to break down hard-to-recycle forms of plastic waste – such as drinks bottles, nylon textiles and polyurethane foams – using acid recovered from old car batteries. This is then converted into clean hydrogen fuel and valuable industrial chemicals. "We’re not promising to fix the global plastics problem, but this shows how waste can become a resource," said lead researcher Professor Erwin Reisner from the @ReisnerLab at @ChemCambridge.
