“Everybody needs a hero” Last weekend, I was asked to make a small contribution to the @Richmond_FC 's 50-year celebration of their 1974 Premiership with some artwork to commemorate the occasion. The players of this generation were heroes to so many Tiger people, and the photograph of Francis Bourke from the 1974 Finals, on which I have based the drawing, became the iconic image of this era and of the famous determination of St Francis himself. Francis Bourke was also my childhood hero. The 1974 celebrations coincided with the club recognising in outstanding fashion, the current incarnation of generational hero, and arguably the Tiger with no peer, Dustin Martin, and over 92,311 showed up. Hero begets hero.

Standing up when it counts. My drawing of champ Scott Pendlebury after he won his 3rd ANZAC Medal in 2019, asks the question: "Has there been a better Magpie player?" He is definitely one of the greats, and will be doing what he does so well on the MCG in a couple of hours.

@jackclarkeno1 @essendonfc @efcppoa Unfortunately, we didn't value his attributes as much as the Tigers did. His teammates at Punt Rd all tell me he was as valuable a finals player as any during their great era, so we stuffed up there in letting him go 🤦‍♂️

Billy Picken is my favourite oppo player ever. He played the game with every part of his being. This drawing “The game does not give up it’s rewards easily” is my celebration of Billy in a tough moment, but always knowing he gave it everything he had.

So proud of my brother @BrendanSchwab. Made the game better for so many by fighting the bravest fights, changing the game and the lives of those who love it, played it well, but often didn’t treat them fairly.

Speaking of the Mankad, what other sports thing/metaphor/move named for a famous sportsperson can you think of? (I feel a column brewing!) Doing "a Bradbury" is obvious, as is "the Campese goosestep". What else you got, sports fans?

@Collingwoodman @CarltonFC @AFL My influence is probably comics and post impressionists. There are some great procreate courses but I mainly look up the specific thing I want to learn when I see something I like. I love Lee Bermejo’s comic style but my favourite artist is Egon Schiele
