Carolina Core FC earned its first win of the MLS NEXT Pro season in dramatic fashion, rallying from a first-half deficit to secure a 2-1 comeback victory over Chicago Fire FC II at Truist Point Stadium.
Corey Lundeen made an immediate impact in his season debut, providing two assists within minutes of entering the match at halftime and helping completely shift momentum in favor of the Core.
The Core showed resilience and composure after going down to 10 men in the 57th minute, battling through more than 30 minutes shorthanded while protecting the lead with disciplined defending and relentless effort.
Tim Zeegers sparked the comeback with a composed finish off a perfectly delivered corner kick, bringing the crowd to life and shifting momentum firmly in the Core’s favor. Mohamed Diakite would then cap off the turnaround moments later, calmly finishing Lundeen’s through ball to give Carolina Core FC its first lead of the night.
