The Government’s decision to provide full customs duty exemption on critical petrochemical products is a highly timely and strategic intervention amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and supply chain disruptions. By ensuring the uninterrupted availability of essential petrochemical inputs, this move will significantly ease cost pressures across multiple sectors, including pharmaceuticals, where such derivatives are integral to manufacturing processes and packaging solutions. For the pharmaceutical industry, in particular, maintaining a stable and cost-efficient supply chain is critical to ensuring the continued availability of high-quality and affordable medicines : Mr Anil Matai, Director General, OPPI #Pharmaceuticals #Pharmaindustry

#WATCH | India’s decision to grant full customs duty exemption on select petrochemical inputs amid West Asia disruptions is a timely and proactive move. It will help stabilize rising input costs for the medtech industry, ensure manufacturing continuity, and prevent price hikes in essential medical devices. While offering immediate relief, it also underscores the need to build domestic capabilities in raw materials to strengthen long-term supply chain resilience. @narendramodi @MIB_India @PIB_India #MedTech #MedicalDevices #Petrochemicals #CustomsDuty #SupplyChain #WestAsiaCrisis

#WATCH | The ongoing West Asia conflict has triggered a global crisis, disrupting supply chains and sharply increasing freight costs, impacting the availability of key energy products like LPG and petrochemicals. To manage the situation, the Government of India has formed a high-level committee and is closely monitoring developments. The pharmaceutical industry has welcomed recent measures, including duty exemptions and freight support, to ensure uninterrupted supply of medicines to patients: Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance @narendramodi @MIB_India @PIB_India #WestAsiaCrisis #GlobalCrisis #SupplyChain #EnergyPrices #LPG #Petrochemicals @sjainindjain

#WATCH | Govt announces major relief for petrochemical & export sectors The government has reduced custom duty on petrochemicals to zero, easing pressure on industries amid global uncertainties, especially the ongoing West Asia conflict. This move is expected to stabilize raw material costs and benefit sectors like textiles and plastics. Along with earlier reductions in duties on petrol and diesel, this step reflects a broader reform push aimed at boosting manufacturing growth and strengthening India’s global competitiveness. A key policy support has also been extended to SEZ units, allowing them to sell up to 30% of their peak exports in the domestic market under certain value-addition norms. This will help exporters navigate global demand pressures amid geopolitical tensions. Chief Economist of ASSOCHAM, Dr. S.P. Sharma, welcomed these measures, stating that they will help strengthen manufacturing, support exporters, and ensure India’s continued growth as a fastest-growing major economy. #Economy #Manufacturing #Exports #IndiaGrowth #Reforms

#WATCH | Preemptive relief for the auto sector can help stabilize supply chains rather than just cut prices. Since many auto components rely on petrochemical inputs like plastics and polymers, the exemption may reduce disruption risks and contain cost pressures. This could ensure steady availability of spares and consumables even amid global volatility: Saharsh Damani, CEO of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) #AutoIndustry #SupplyChain #EnergyCrisis #Petrochemicals #AutoSector #GlobalTrade

#WATCH | The government’s decision to exempt certain intermediate products from customs duty is a timely and pragmatic measure. Ongoing disruptions in the Middle East have driven up crude oil and petrochemical prices, increasing the cost of synthetic fibres, while higher natural gas prices are raising fertilizer costs, adding pressure on agricultural production. This dual impact is affecting both the man-made fibre and cotton value chains, making cost management critical. The exemption is expected to stabilise input costs, support downstream textile segments, and ensure supply continuity. Overall, the move is well-targeted and proactive, aimed at protecting industry competitiveness, easing pressure on consumers, and providing significant relief to the manufacturing sector, particularly SMEs: Dr. Siddhartha Rajagopal, Executive Director, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council #CustomsDuty #TextileIndustry #ManufacturingIndia

The duty waiver on key petrochemical inputs is a welcome and timely step. The industry expresses its sincere appreciation to the Government of India, especially the @FinMinIndia, @Pharmadept, and the @CimGOI for this support. Raw materials such as Polypropylene, ABS, Polycarbonate, and PVC resin form the backbone of medical consumables manufacturing, and their exemption provides much-needed relief to domestic manufacturers, especially MSMEs. Additionally, the recent reversal of the earlier 50% reduction in RoDTEP rates is a positive and encouraging move. It will significantly enhance the competitiveness of the Indian medical devices industry on the global stage and support export growth: Mr Himanshu Baid, Co-Chair-FICCI Medical Devices Committee and Managing Director, Poly Medicure Limited.
