Did you know that due to their vocal structure, #cheetahs can't roar like other big #cats. However, they can make a wide variety of vocalizations - including chirping, hissing and barking. They can also purr just like a house #cat (as Dominic is demonstrating). Want to learn more? Visit cheetah.org

Just in case you needed a few seconds of Livestock Guarding Dog (LGD) #puppies! While these pups are tiny now, these #dogs will grow up to become a vital part of our frontline #conservation efforts in #Namibia, helping to protect livestock -- and prevent conflicts between humans and wild carnivores. Approximately two weeks, CCF received information on two young #cheetah cubs in the northeastern part of Somaliland destined for the illegal wildlife trade - if they survived. In partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) quickly mobilized a rescue team to get the cubs as soon as possible. By 7 pm the following evening, the cubs were safely back at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Geed-Deeble, receiving expert care. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of the team at the CRCC, the tiny cubs were stabilized and are growing fast! The illegal wildlife trade continues to devastate #wild cheetah populations in the Horn of Africa. According to estimates, less than 500 #cheetahs remain in the wild in Horn of Africa – and in 2023, the Northeast African cheetah (the subspecies found in the region) was uplisted to #endangered. Most of the cheetah cubs removed from the wild as part of the illegal #wildlife trade do not survive the traumatic conditions experienced while being trafficked. Want to help stop the trade? We have exciting news to share! Our cheetah keeper, Elifas Nashini, contributed a poster and an online presentation to the 6th International Meeting on Zoo Research, Conservation and Biodiversity, hosted by our longtime supporter, the Serengeti Park in Hodenhagen, Germany. Titled ‘Reducing Stress in Captive Cheetahs via Positive Reinforcement Training’, the poster submitted by Elifas outlines the way the #cheetah team at Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) trains our cats to voluntarily participate in medical procedures such as blood draws through Positive Reinforcement Training (PRT). This approach significantly reduces stress during these procedures and ultimately improves the welfare of our resident #cheetahs, while enhancing keeper safety. The poster was designed by Elifas, with support from head cheetah keeper Lea Petersen, conservation scientist and canines specialist Dr. Tim Hofmann, and Dr. Laurie Marker, founder and executive director of CCF. This team also contributed to the development of the training approach, which is carried out by the cheetah keepers. Currently, all of the cheetahs at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Somaliland and three-fourths of the cheetahs at CCF’s Centre in Namibia have been trained with this approach. Happy Easter from Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF)! Forget the lambs – it’s #puppy season in Namibia, and we have 24 little cuties on site! These basket-loving #puppies might be stealing the spotlight today, but they are also part of the important work we do to support farmers and protect wildlife. Wishing you an Easter filled with joy – and puppies!

Happy eighth birthday to Dominic! Dom arrived at Cheetah Conservation Fund’s (CCF) Centre in Namibia in 2018, when he was just ten days old! Dom was very sick when he was first rescued – and was so young his eyes had just opened, and he still had no teeth. Staff provided intensive care and Dom recovered - and grew up to become a beautiful #cat! Today, he’s also known for his exceptionally loud purr. Want to learn how to sponsor Dominic – or one of the other #cheetahs rescued by CCF? ➡️Visit cheetah.org/get-involved/w…

CheetahTV is back today with a very special episode! This week, host Brian Badger is joined by Dr. Andre Coetzer, the CEO of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC). During the episode, Brian and Dr. Coetzer discuss the impact of #rabies – a disease that claims the lives of approximately 59,000 people every year and can be devastating to #endangered species, like African wild dogs and cheetahs. During the episode, Brian and Dr. Coetzer also delve into the ambitious global effort to end dog-mediated rabies deaths by 2030, and how Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is partnering with GARC to tackle rabies in #cheetah habitat. The new episode premieres at 1 PM EST on YouTube! Watch the premiere – and catch up on past episodes at youtube.com/ccfcheetah To learn more about the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) visit rabiesalliance.org

We are thrilled to share an update from the Livestock Guarding Dog (LGD) program in Namibia - Misty-Lee delivered eight healthy #puppies! With five males and three females, this litter represents a new generation of canine guardians, poised to make a significant impact on our frontline #conservation efforts. Each and every one of these puppies has the potential to play a crucial role in fostering understanding and coexistence between local communities and #wildlife. With a loud bark and a naturally protective nature, Livestock Guarding Dogs (LGDs) deter wild predators like cheetahs, keeping livestock safe and helping to prevent conflicts between humans and wildlife. Since the Livestock Guarding Dog (LGD) program launched in 1994, more than 800 #dogs have been placed on farms across Namibia and other parts of Africa. Now, at nearly three weeks old, the puppies are thriving – and growing fast! We’ll share more updates soon! Want to learn more? Visit cheetah.org
