Community Foundation for Southwest Washington

Take Root brought together ~600 community members to celebrate the philanthropic heart of southwest Washington. Majora Carter delivered an inspiring keynote on community development, encouraging us to get creative about our talent retention strategies. Let's keep it growing!

The Community Foundation established the Philanthropist of the Year Award to recognize and celebrate individuals, couples, families or foundations that serve as exemplars of generosity in our community through outstanding charitable support, leadership and service.

You may recognize them from Green Eggs and Ham, Summertime Cruisin', their Holiday Meals program, or one of the many other ways this couple shares their time and generousity. In any case, give us a hand in thanking Mark and Ali for their intention and impact!

Chances are, you already know the recipients of our #Philanthropists of the Year Award. Mark Matthias and Ali Novinger, the owners of the Beaches Foundation and Beaches Restuarant and Bar, are fiercely dedicated to creating a more equitable, welcoming SWWA.

In 2022, she pioneered the first Juneteenth Freedom Celebration in Esther Short Park, uplifting Black and African American culture and honoring the American ideal of "liberty and justice for ALL." All ages are welcome to join the festivities as Esther Short Park this June 17!
