@Degenwillape We were talking about Matthew 16. You're ascribing motives to me that I don't have. You even pointed out me arguing against a certain interpretation. I'm just asking you to have the same intellectual honesty.
English

It's almost like you legit didn't even read my post. You got it bro, it's all good.
I was literally deciding between Romanism and EO for almost 4 months before I even became a Protestant. Coming from an unsatisfied non denom faith, my genuine pull was towards an ecclesialist tradition. Yet, I guess it's logically impossible for you to comprehend that someone can come to a different perspective without them being dishonest. I think the pre conceived notions that need to be tended to here, are yours. Good night.
English

My journey to the Catholic Church all started with me going through Bible translations. I wanted something different so I wanted a study Bible that was the Revised Standard Version (RSV). Problem is the only Study Bibles that are RSV are Catholic. Being a Protestant for all my life, I said why not. That was in 2024. The rest is history. I've been on this teeter totter ever since.

English

@Degenwillape Brother, there's no hostility with me. I just asked you who Jesus was speaking to in Matthew 16. You know the answer. Your preconceived notions just require you to reject it.
English

Bit of a hostile turn in discussion. I thought this was a friendly conversation. My point was to ask you, because you’re the one that made the previous argument against it, why you changed your mind? Decide to go Roman and immediately deflection is the name of the game. lol Have a good night, Charles. Ridiculous.
English

@slimygridder @MatthewDePra Yes, you do. That's why Jesus started the Church. But not everyone knows that. God is not cruel.
English

The Catholic priest at the church I had been attending just emailed me. He said he is still willing to work with me toward full communion. He has found a sponsor for me named Tom, and he wants to see consistency from me before moving forward.
The original plan was for the Easter Vigil, but with less than two weeks left, that is no longer realistic. He now wants to aim for Pentecost Sunday as the target date for me to enter full communion and receive the sacraments.
This message came out of the blue, and I am praying seriously about whether I truly want to do this.
English

@slimygridder @MatthewDePra No. God works with people where they are at.
English

@CharlesTingler @MatthewDePra So anyone outside of those confines goes to hell?
English

@Degenwillape Who received the keys in Matthew 16? Who was Jesus speaking to?
English

@CharlesTingler I swear I’ve literally seen you argue against this position by pointing out that all the apostles were given the keys in the same sense that Peter was. Not in some intellectual exercise way either, but like in a defeater way. What changed?
English

@Degenwillape Yes, I have. But Peter is the rock. And he was given the keys. Simon became Peter.
English

@CharlesTingler Is there a reason you are going towards Romanism? Have you given adequate thought towards, Lutheranism, EO or Anglican?
English

@Degenwillape Yes, I tend to do that. I'm a very weird individual.
English

@CharlesTingler We Lutherans would welcome you! Lol I’m happy for you, though. May God guide and lead you.
I just find it funny because I just saw you arguing with a Romanist literally today. 😅
English

@howiedoit299187 You obviously don't have the discernment to understand the analogy.
English

@CharlesTingler 1/ Teeter totters need two people to make it work.
2/ Teeter totters don't go anywhere
3/ Teeter totters don't take you anywhere.
4/ Teeter totters are for children.
Get off the teeter totter and start living real life bro.
English

@Degenwillape I believe I am brother. "To whom shall I go".
English

@CharlesTingler So are you converting to Romanism? I remember you saying you currently didn’t have a church.
English

@genxbaptist And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
— Acts 2:38
English

@CharlesTingler That's awesome. It's very traditional to receive converts at Pentecost when they can't make Easter. There is even a Pentecost Vigil similar (but shorter) to the Easter Vigil.
Praying for you now.
English

English

@CharlesTingler @ManassehRJones Do you think you received The Holy Spirit because you were baptized, or did you get baptized because you received The Holy Spirit?
English

@becomelutheran About a year ago a Lutheran priest personally delivered a copy of the Book of Concord. Interesting book. Especially the treatise of the Pope.
English

@CharlesTingler You should read the Augsburg Confession first

English

That's talking about initial justification. Read the next verse.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
— Ephesians 2:10
Your initial justification is by grace through faith as a gift. To remain in a state of grace, you must live out your faith through charity (good works).
Matt DePra@MatthewDePra
@CharlesTingler But the Bible says this? Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

@CharlesTingler Why do you need a person to sponsor you to participate in the free gift God is offering us?
