Let’s not forget that as Donald Trump passes judgement on the head of State of Iran there is another one, in the Kremlin, whose signature started the invasion of Ukraine and has left hundreds of thousands of people dead. If the US is not to be seen as hypocritical in its claim that it is re-asserting moral authority then the White House should take a much harder line on Russia.

@JHDScourfield What even fewer people know, the absolutely disgusting true history of the saint commonly known as St Pancake (Sanctus Pancacius), who was Παγκάκκιος in his native Greek.

@ryan_sikola @PIE_Animals I am not sure. The modern Finnish etymological dictionary only cites other Finno-Ugric parallels, but doesn't connect them with any Indo-European words (which they are usually very happy to do). Maybe someone with a better background in Finno-Ugristics can clarify.

@ryan_sikola @PIE_Animals Possibly. If I interpret the big Finnish-English dictionary correctly, "piggery, pig house" is sikala, and for "pigsty" it has sikolätti. But this is standard Finnish. I guess there may be dialects where the concept is expressed by sikola.
