We must, then, avoid the “Babel syndrome,” namely the idolatry of profit that sacrifices the weak, a uniformity that neutralizes differences, and the pretense that a single language — even a digital one — can translate everything, including the mystery of the person, into data and performance. This is the risk of dehumanization: building a future that excludes God and reduces the other to a means.

The Babel syndrome is what happens when the human person is translated into data until the mystery disappears. The way of Nehemiah is the opposite. Not one tower. Many hands rebuilding one wall.

Babel says: one language, one system, one market, one metric. Nehemiah says: each family, each gate, each stone, each vocation.

Man is not data. Dignity is not utility. Progress is not salvation. Our incentives are compromised. We need help to help judge what we cannot judge from inside the machine.

Some gave all in service to something greater than themselves. On this #MemorialDay, we honor their courage, sacrifice and enduring legacy.

"Nothing is lost with peace, whereas with war everything can be lost." (§219, citing Pius XII) Pope Leo XIV closes the war chapter with Pius XII's 1939 words. On the eve of WWII then.

§99 states that AI systems: "do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom."
