(3/4) The focus now is on permanent repair, debris removal, and restoration. I asked DC Water about prevention efforts across the system. They are continuing inspections and infrastructure upgrades. The DC Council will continue conducting oversight to ensure accountability.

🧵I want to share an update on the sewer pipe failure affecting the Potomac River. DC Water has stabilized the situation, and no overflow events impacting surface waters have been reported since Feb. 9. Drinking water remains safe. ▶️Full update: mattfruminward3.com/potomac-sewer-…

Escalation teams will continue to pick up missed trash and recycling collections on Monday as needed. For the week, DPW will operate on a one-day slide schedule for collections of household trash, recycling, and food waste. For example, households that normally receive trash, recycling, and food waste collections on Monday, February 16 will be serviced on Tuesday, February 17. The Benning Road Transfer Station is closed for renovations until further notice. The Fort Totten Transfer Station will be closed to the public on Monday, February 16. All services will resume on Tuesday, February 17 for bulk trash and recycling.

DPW has activated escalation teams & seasonal staff to address missed collections, with crews now operating 7 days/week. If your collection was missed: keep cans out and submit a new 311 request to ensure it’s routed correctly. Read today's ❄️update: mattfruminward3.com/winterstormres…
DC Department of Public Works@DCDPW

The Department of Public Works continues working to restore full residential trash, recycling, and food waste collections. We recognize some residents are experiencing missed collections, and we understand how frustrating and disruptive the situation is.

To address these delays, DPW has activated seasonal employees as part of a dedicated escalation protocol. This will allow us to route 311 service requests more quickly, get teams into the field faster, and operate seven days a week. These teams will run newly created escalation routes, focusing on missed trash and recycling pickups.

As this enhanced response continues, residents should keep their cans and household trash at their normal collection point until it is collected. If service is still missed, we encourage residents to submit a 311 request. If a previous request has not been resolved, submitting a new one ensures it is captured in our updated routing system.

For households that are now receiving normal collections, continue to place your cans out on the normal collection schedule. Trash and recycling are no longer being collected together, so only put out recycling cans on your normal recycling collection day.

Trash, recycling, and food waste collections continue throughout the District. If your trash or recycling is not collected on your scheduled day, please leave your bins out, as missed collections will be prioritized the following day. If materials have not been collected within two days, residents should report the issue to 311
