At CNT, we think about transit differently. It’s not just about moving people, it’s about who gets connected, who gets left out, and what that means for long-term community stability. That lens shapes everything we do, from transit to climate resilience to data access.

Chicago needs a real growth plan centered on retaining middle-income families. With new South Side tech hubs coming online, the agglomeration upside is enormous, but the workforce is sprawled across the region, draining the core. Sustainable growth means family-friendly density so works aren’t forced to the exurbs (or Dallas) when they start a family. I haven’t seen a single plan that does this at scale.

US metro estimates of GDP for 2024 have been released. You can see how absurdly rich the SF Bay Area is. SF + San Jose had a combined GDP lower than Chicago in 2012. Today, they're 35% bigger. We need to start thinking of SF, not Chicago, as America's third city.

Three years of Impact, organized in one report. It's timely as our soon to be formed Northern Illinois Transit Agency embarks on equitable transit-oriented development strategies among its other regional transportation work. bit.ly/3MwfxJi
