As Christ carried the cross, a little robin is said to have tried to ease his suffering, plucking barbs from the crown of thorns. A drop of blood fell upon its breast, marking it red to this day—a tale of compassion and kindness. #GoodFriday #Folklore

The daisy, April’s birth flower, takes its name from the Old English “dæges ēage”, meaning “day’s eye”, for it opens with the light and closes again at dusk. Its Latin name, Bellis perennis, means “everlasting beauty”. #FolkloreThursday

Wood anemones, the windflowers, were once thought to open and scatter at the wind’s touch. In classical myth they were said to spring from tears. Their fleeting blooms came to symbolise fragility and loss, and the beauty of spring, their star-like flowers opening to the light.

There’s a self expansive aspect of gratitude. Very possibly it’s a little known law of nature: The more gratitude you have The more you have to be grateful for. Elaine St James

Viola riviniana is known in Irish as sailchuach, from sáil meaning heel and cuach meaning cuckoo. The flower was thought to resemble a bird’s foot from the side, and it blooms with the cuckoo’s return, heralding the true arrival of spring.

The Saint Patrick passing North West Greenland in 1993, which is possibly the most spectacular photo ever taken of a Galway Hooker. The 1909 Casey's of Mweenish, Connemara, built Saint Patrick - Bád Chonraí, was skippered by Paddy Barry as she sailed to Greenland in 1993.
