Community Gardens Ireland

Today community gardens were added to Irish law for the first time. This important step follows years of discussions & presentations. More work is needed but huge thanks to @noonan_malcolm @MarcKC_Green @stevensgreen1 & all TDs/Senators for the support. cgireland.org/community-gard…

Summer has truly arrived, yesterday we shared some amazing dishes prepared by Maria using produce from the garden. We tried the first of our doughnut Peaces which were sweet and delicious, imagine peach Trees growing in Togher, we also have Fig,Apple,Plum,Apricot,and Pear trees.

We were delighted to welcome the local 5th and 6th class girls from Togher Girls National School. A wonderful day of learning, exploring, and enjoying the outdoors. It was great to share our garden, learn about nature together, and see such enthusiasm and curiosity.

Lots going on yesterday in the garden, Larry gave us a talk on how to use the bokashi method of composting, lots of scytheing around the garden, more wheelchair access sorted, the girls from @CorkMidsummer came to help for their event next week, details to follow 🌱🌱🌱

Over the last few days, we harvested half of our garlic, planted outdoor tomatoes (endurance), did an inventory of our tools, and potted our squash. The Amaranth is flying up and the Jerusalem artichoke. @greenspacescork @CommunityGrdns

We were so delighted to welcome members of Cork Queer Nature Collective yesterday for a fantastic meitheal in the garden. Their energy, care, and willingness to get stuck into every task made a huge difference, and so much great work was achieved together.A heartfelt thank you.

We’ve started installing our Gridmat pathways around our community garden to improve accessibility for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility 🌿 Thanks so much our our Community Warden Arthur for his trojan work today, and to Denis on his digger.

Many hands working together on Saturday, we planted in Oliver’s & Stella's tomato's, and started a willow fence which was so much fun, & shared a delicious lunch. Here’s to all the small moments that make this place special.

Another beautiful Saturday in Togher Community Garden, a meitheal in the truest sense, hands working side by side, not out of obligation but out of shared care and quiet joy. Laughter heard throughout the beds like birdsong, we are blessed. @greenspacescork @CommunityGrdns

Cork weather today, spring, summer, autumn, winter, and back to spring again before Lunch 🌦️😂 The garden didn’t know whether to photosynthesise or build an ark 🌱🚣‍♂️ 🤭 we harvested some beautiful candy beetroot, planted lots more seed and filled the beds with new soil.

Thanks to Denis Mccarthy, Togher Market Gardener who supplied us with our seed potatoes, Dunbar Rovers and Sharp Express from his own garden. Proper Togher poppy's bai 🤪 Megan cleared the algae from the pond,our trees are already starting to produce fruits in the polytunnel 🤯

Great day today for The Community Garden,as our well has been started, this is an absolute lifeline for us, the last 2 summers we have had to hand water as our rain water system kept leaving us down. We had another visit from a group of Italian students and more seeds planted🌱
