“A miraculous recovery” On January 2, this adult White Ibis (23-14) was found on the ground, thin, severely dehydrated, unable to stand, and generally weak. After 5 days of intensive care, the ibis had improved significantly and was cleared for release back to the wild!

They were given supportive fluids and ate well during their first assisted feed! For now, the four Barn Owlets (22-5465-5468) will continue to be closely monitored in rehab under supportive care!

After a renesting attempt of four Barn Owlets on Friday, our volunteer, Chad continued to check the ‘nest’ for activity. After a day with no sign of mom, the owlets were admitted to the clinic. Staff found the owlets were dehydrated but otherwise healthy.

Our rehabilitation staff was happy to report she started eating on her own and is making slow progress. At the time of these photos, she was still in an oxygen chamber for support. Now, she has moved into her own rabbit hutch!

Ahhh, just what the bunny doctor ordered 🌿 Eastern Cottontail patient (22-5281) was having a heaping good time in her mountain of greens! In addition to nutrition, she’s found it’s great camouflage. Can you spot her in this photo?

If you find a bat struggling on the ground but acting appropriately, use caution and assist the bat onto a textured tree with a long stick. If the bat doesn’t climb or is acting lethargic, use thick gloves to place the bat in a box and/or call your nearest wildlife rehabber

On November 7, an adult Mexican Free-tailed Bat (22-5223) was admitted after being found struggling in Fort Myers. Vets noted the bat was thin and dehydrated with a lower body temperature. Our rehab staff provided supportive care overnight then released the bat back to the wild!

Bats are great environmental and agricultural friends! As insectivores, these tiny flighted mammals save U.S. farmers over $3.7 BILLION worth of pest control each year!

A staff member from @SCCF_SWFL found a banded watersnake on Sanibel Island. The watersnake was transferred to us from @CROWClinic. CROW’s intake form stated the snake was severely dehydrated due to the lack of fresh water on Sanibel. BLOG | conservancy.org/banded-watersn…

Hurricane Ian made a huge impact across Florida, including in Sanibel Island where @CROWClinic is located. The Zoo was asked to take in Billy, a nine-banded armadillo, and a female opossum! They will become animal ambassadors with us. #CentralFloridaZoo #Armadillo #Opossum

ARC generously offered their old clinic buildings so we could continue our mission of saving wildlife until our Sanibel campus is repaired! Our hospital team went right to work organizing and setting up the spaces for optimal patient care!

It’s OFFICIAL! We’re moving in!! Over the weekend and early this week, our staff packed up and moved out all our salvaged supplies and equipment from the ‘patient holding’ hotel room to the @AnimalRefuge Center (ARC)!
