@sproutfi_xyz i truly believe the next generation of retail-friendly apps should go beyond transparency --> they should be informative enough to give users real confidence in how the product works and how their portfolio is being allocated

@santiagoroel yep - "at least private credit earned you 12-16%" the current risk & reward just does not make sense for most defi products. and some vault curators are just too reckless (yet people forgot the different incidents too quickly)

rates in DeFi are too low for the level of risk $11.7B sitting in Morpho vaults today at 2-4% APY. retail is funding these markets via exchanges thinking it's a savings account. it's not. they're taking real credit risk on crypto-collateralized lending no institution accepts near risk-free rates to come on-chain not all vaults are created equal. same 2-4% yield but completely different risk profile (different curators, collateral, LLTVs). retail picks the highest number. farmers will farm back in the day >100% APYs in DeFi made sense. you were compensated for the risk you were taking. DeFi is a different animal today but vol, historical dislocations, and looping strategies on crypto collateral still demand at least 300-400 bps above risk-free. we're nowhere near that. @LucaProsperi ran the math (see below). tldr - fair value spread on ETH/BTC-collateralized lending is 250-400 bps above risk-free. observed rates are a fraction of that last cycle we saw a lot of retail pour savings into algo stablecoins promising "risk free" yield. this cycle vaults have a lot of demand but they are mispriced for the level of risk. you're trusting someone to LP into vaults and trust the manager will manage position at least private credit earned you 12-16% go read this: open.substack.com/pub/dirtroads/…

This is wild: Citrini sent a dude with $15,000 cash, recording sunglasses, and a pack of Cuban cigars to the Strait of Hormuz. What he found flips everything Wall Street thinks about the strait on its head. Every hedge fund, every macro desk, every retired general on CNBC is watching the same AIS shipping data to price Hormuz risk. The analyst signed a pledge at an Omani checkpoint promising not to gather information, then smuggled in a gimbal, a microphone kit, and a 150x zoom Leica camera past the border officer who inspected his bag. What he discovered on the ground: the AIS data everyone is trading on is missing roughly half of what's actually transiting the strait on any given day. Ships are going dark, spoofing destinations, broadcasting "CHINESE CREW OWNER" through transponder fields to avoid getting hit. Iran's ghost fleet is running 29+ laden tankers inside the Gulf with transponders off, moving an estimated $3B in crude to Malaysia since the war started. The entire market is pricing a "closed" strait off satellite imagery and transponder data that has a 50% blind spot. Every oil model, every supply forecast, every macro call built on AIS throughput numbers is working from a dataset that systematically overstates the disruption. When the signals deliberately go dark, the people staring at dashboards are the last to know what's happening. Citrini figured that out by putting a guy on a speedboat 18 miles from the Iranian coast while Shahed drones flew overhead. The gap between "what AIS says" and "what's actually transiting" is the most mispriced variable in energy right now.

@zmanian we need to solve the legal accountability of ai agents before we see its full adoption in capital management.

My take is vaults get entirely replaced by wallet that enable controlled to Ai agents within 6 months. There is a zero reason to aggregate capital under a manager now. You can provide risk and modeling endpoints that agents buy intelligence from mpp and x402. Eliminating vaults massively reduces the attack surface exposed by Drift and Resolv.

The vault curator and risk manager landscape in DeFi is about to undergo a massive change in terms of players, markets, asset types, credit origination & underwriting, and yields. Vaults are one of the most innovative and exciting parts of the industry rn

Curators are the new kingmakers of DeFi. Morpho, Euler, Gauntlet, Re7. They decide where billions flow. But here is the paradox: curators delegate risk. They do not price it. 🧵

bm everyone, Today is my last day at Berachain. Among all the places I've worked in the last 10 years, this has easily been the best. I joined the team a couple years back excited to not only put bears on the blockchain, but to work with an elite team building out a crazy experiment. I didn't know just how much I'd love working with this crew, through highs (Boyco) and lows (also Boyco), and it was very hard to make the decision to move on. This remains one of the most talented, passionate, and familial cultures in the space, and I know that there's still a lot of passion and drive to improve from the top down. After a lot of hard work over the last 6 months, PoL vNext is going live soon with some initial case studies (see Smokey’s new tweet), so it felt like a logical point to take a step back and get back to building 0->1. Huge amount of thanks to @SmokeyTheBera for taking a bet on me, and thanks to everyone for the small moments, the comraderie, and the support. It's been an honor and a pleasure. Cap'n Jack Bearow out
