This week the @Eurofi Nicosia event has taken place virtually with great success. An event that originally was planned to take place physically in Nicosia (with more than 1,000 participants at senior-level positions from the global financial services, technology, insurance & banking industry, government authorities, central banks, supervisory and other public bodies) had to be moved to an online forum due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Big credit though to the organizers for managing to move the conference to an online structure with great success in a matter of a few weeks. I had the honor and privilege to chair the session on “Cryptoassets: market trends and first MiCA lessons”. The objective of the session was twofold: 👉🏻 First lessons from #MiCA, benefits/gaps/challenges, stock-taking of policy developments in the EU and international crypto space 👉🏻 Future market and policy evolutions We had an excellent and very distinguished panel of discussants from public authorities and industry representatives: 1. Marilin Pikaro, Director, Innovation, Conduct & Consumers, European Banking Authority (EBA) 2. Oliver Gilvarry ACMA, Assistant Secretary General with Responsibility for Banking, Dept of Finance, Ireland 3. Rohan Lee, Deputy Director, International Policy & Partnerships, Financial Services Group, HM Treasury 4. Beata Sivak, Head of Government Relations & Policy EMEA, Kraken 5. Elie Farah, Managing Partner, Head of Financial Services for Europe, Oliver Wyman 6. Hubert Grignon Dumoulin, Digital Assets Senior Expert, CACEIS We heard very interesting perspectives from all discussants and if I had to summarize in a few words the conclusions of our debate would be this: 👉🏻 Lots of good work has already been produced in Europe with the introduction of #MiCA. However, developments in the industry are progressing very fast. At the same time, we have lots of regulatory developments in other competing jurisdictions. Thus, we are at an early stage of an industry that has lots of potential but also lots of challenges for the future. #MiCA #financialservices #cryptoassets #regulation #supervision
