Not a single human being in sight- a few cars that presumably have humans in them but encased in steel. The park is empty. Few flowers or gardens. Grass. This is really a sort of necropolitics, a desire to be rid of messy social life, a yearning for the silence of the tomb.

Mr. Bezos, when I think about “free markets and personal liberties” I don’t think about the Post editorial page. I think about this vending machine in an Amazon Fulfillment Center, which is stocked not with chips but with painkillers.

I shared this note with the Washington Post team this morning: I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages. We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others. There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job. I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity. I offered David Shipley, whom I greatly admire, the opportunity to lead this new chapter. I suggested to him that if the answer wasn’t “hell yes,” then it had to be “no.” After careful consideration, David decided to step away. This is a significant shift, it won’t be easy, and it will require 100% commitment — I respect his decision. We’ll be searching for a new Opinion Editor to own this new direction. I’m confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America. I also believe these viewpoints are underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion. I’m excited for us together to fill that void. Jeff

Right so, “resist” means *don’t* follow fascist orders. Don’t take the art off the walls. Don’t delete the website. Don’t open the dams. Play dumb. Ask for clarity, repeatedly. Lose the email. Misplace the keys. Stall. Ignore. Forget. Crawl. You are the line, you hold it.

The world we live in is always an index of the balance of forces in an un-ending political fight. If we withdrawal ourselves because a sense of pessimism pre-ordains an expectation of some “final” loss, then the effect will be that the world we live in every day will worsen.

not to be barbie but how do you guys cope with the growing sense of dread that the world is legitimately going to end in our lifetimes and everything you know and love will collapse into chaos

3/3 As Patrick Krill notes, “Law students might not realize how a particular work setting might affect them.” It’s time to ask: What are the internal costs of pursuing careers that normalize injustice? Law school isn’t just the start of a career—it sets the tone.

2/ The legal profession is grappling with a well-being crisis—from burnout to moral injury. Studies show lawyers disproportionately face anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. The clash between personal values and systemic harm leads to what some describe as "soul wounds."

1/3 When law students consider career options, moral injury is often overlooked. Aiden Bassett, founder of Georgetown's @LSCA, challenges peers to rethink Big Law’s complicity in the climate crisis: “Firms are all too happy to defend whoever pays them.” theflaw.org/articles/moral…

I spent several nights last week at a Beninese call center. It’s possible you’ve spoken to the ppl there without realizing. (Trust me, you’ve heard of the company they work for.) Here’s what it looks like for workers paid $3/day, and what it says about outsourcing + development
