However many turn up at today’s Yes Cymru “march” in Barry, one thing will be clear. The vast majority will not be local. The separatists may bus people in from far and wide for these things, but the reality is simple. The people of the Vale, like most of Wales, do not want to break apart our nation. While they want to focus on what matters, like our NHS, public services, improving living standards and reducing poverty, Plaid Cymru nationalists pursue minority interests like independence and the Nation of Sanctuary. They are out of touch.

This completely inappropriate development, which one resident described as “prison-like”, was imposed on the community with scant consultation and was built without planning permission. Campaigning in Llantwit today, residents told me how the scheme is impacting the town to its detriment. People across Wales are paying the price for Senedd ministers’ out of touch, ideologically motivated policies.
