I love Fitbit. I loved the products as a reviewer at CNET and then went on to work with them to launch dozens of new ones during my PR time. All they needed was some extra resources and instead they will join the long list of other opportunities Google has squandered

As the article points out, there are frequent service outages, kneecapped new products, and now they are even removing very popular features. Challenges are huge. They are a big selling point for Fitbit so much so that we used to specifically call them out in our press releases.

@raywongy My guess is some sort of electrical box or maybe NYPD surveillance because that looks like a camera at the top… or a time machine.

This is 1000x worse than the Hopper controversy from 2013. Companies were always mad at us for negative reviews. Some of them were huge advertisers on the site. I never heard from anyone on the advertising/revenue team when CBS was the owner. There was a firewall between teams

Red Ventures is killing nearly 30 years of CNET integrity. This is bad and I feel for my former colleagues. I’m sure many of them want to tell these executives to shove it but no one can afford to be unemployed in this climate theverge.com/2023/2/2/23582…

I’m disappointed in the direction Red Ventures has taken CNET. They should be investing in the writers (who are some of the smartest people in the business) rather than trying to game SEO with AI…

This is a bad look that hurts the reputation of a once powerhouse brand. It’s even worse when you consider CNET laid off dozens of talented writers last year.

Some thoughts on this. I spent four years working at CNET and the past 20 being an avid reader of the site. I have many friends who still work there and I’m sure many of them share my same feelings.

An AI-written "fact-checked" CNET article had major errors, leading CNET to add notes to almost all AI pieces saying they are being reviewed "for accuracy" (@jon_christian / Futurism) futurism.com/cnet-ai-errors #a230117p25" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">techmeme.com/230117/p25#a23

Classic Jets. An undrafted 4th string QB is better than QB1. When QB2, QB3, and QB4 all do better in the same system maybe it’s time we start using the B word

@jetscott National TV is kryptonite for the Jets. Give us the CBS C-team and we would be winning

Jets need to put in Chris Streveler. It wouldn’t be any worse than what we watched in the first half

I had Lasik 5+ years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I love not having to put in contacts or wear glasses anymore. No major complications. I do experience some glare when driving at night but I don’t believe it’s worse than when I would wear my glasses.
The New York Times@nytimes

Patients considering Lasik surgery should be warned that they may be left with double vision, dry eyes, difficulty driving at night and, in rare cases, persistent eye pain, according to draft guidance by the FDA. Surgeons say the benefits are being ignored.nyti.ms/3BiLxaO

I would argue that a lot of men have online friends that we met playing video games. The problem is that people who don’t play online games don’t view these as real friendships when in reality some of the closest people in my life are the people I routinely game with

This was a fascinating read. I also found this part interesting. I had AT&T as a client for a few years during this time and never heard anyone refer to Randall Stephenson as “the chairman”. It was simply “Randall” or “RS”

AT&T’s $100 billion acquisition of Time Warner is hardly the first deal to have gone disastrously awry. But few mergers have stirred up such seething resentments and finger-pointing. It was a strategic miscalculation unrivaled in recent corporate history. nyti.ms/3gnaR8v
