@DanWolken "The Preakness" has always been little more than an afterthought to Baffert. That goes double in the case of Crude Velocity

When even BOB BAFFERT is passing up a chance to win the Preakness - there’s no doubt Crude Velocity would have been the favorite if entered - that race in its current form is absolutely cooked.
Agentes305@agentes305

HOF Trainer BOB BAFFERT has just confirmed to Agentes 305 that, although is very tempting, the Preakness is coming too close for CRUDE VELOCITY, so he will point the horse towards the Woody Stephen's and Haskell; so they will pass on this year's edition of the @PreaknessStakes No other horses from the barn were in consideration for this race. BOB Baffert ha confirmado que no estará presente en el Preakness Stakes. CRUDE VELOCITY que era el caballo en consideración, apuntará al Woody Stephen's y el Haskell 2026.

WRAL Investigates reckless driving charges and months of complaints about UNC football players' parking and driving habits on campus. Parking issues left the athletic director apologizing and one professor wondering if there's anyone who can change the behavior. Link⬇️

Hawks will have Onsi Saleh up on stage for the lottery and Daniel Starkman in the back room with the actual ping-pong balls.

Incredible job by Jeremy Rose not to fall off. However, if they had put a more experienced big race rider on Afleet Alex for the Derby there is zero doubt in my mind he would have won the Triple Crown.
The Staggie Man@thestaggieman

2005 Preakness Stakes- Afleet Alex This has to be the most dramatic Preakness of all time. Giacomo the derby winner came back to run 3rd, but my lord Afleet Alex almost unsaddled Jeremy Rose, I have no clue how Alex didn’t go down. Incredible

@Hamatsa50 That seems like a self-perpetuating problem given that the athletic director is under them on the org chart

The reason many of us said players deserve to make money is because the college sports model was an illegal house of cards. The NCAA had chances to course correct. They did not, so the courts acted. Awful strategy. And many of those same folks continue to lead the enterprise.
Mr704@Mr704intheQC

Haha Media and some fans: College sports are a business and players deserve to make money. Schools: Ok we are adding teams to March madness and the CFP Those same people: That’s just a cash grab! This sucks! Me: yeah - that’s what you asked for.

@MattHayesCFB Those games mostly seem pretty good. I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze on a 24-teamer but the matchups are fine

@Chrissy_Ottb @SaratogaAngie I saw a stat on here somewhere that Cherie has run zero horses back with 15 or less days of rest in the last five years. Zero! Asking her to change her method given the success she’s had is unreasonable.

@SaratogaAngie @DanWolken Instead, she’s doing what’s right for the horse. While she may “owe” the industry - that horse does not.

@NateTidwell86 Reading too much into it. People are crunching numbers and asking why these programs exist. Tennis isn’t a development sport for the Olympics and if most of the scholarships are going to non-Americans it’s less painful to cut

@tsnmike @csATLdawg Mike is 100% correct. We could have had a world where a relatively small percentage of revenue went into escrow accounts for athletes that could have even been subject to certain conditions like graduation to get 100%. The world looks a lot different if that happens.

@csATLdawg @DanWolken You have no idea how little would have been required to settle the O’Bannon case amicably. The class attorneys had a settlement offer in mind once the case was set for trial. NCAA officials never heard that offer. They refused to take the meeting.

@Globaloneyest When the inevitable collapse happens and a super league forms, that will indeed be the biggest culprit.

@DanWolken The source of the problem is sovereignty of the conferences in negotiating media rights. It set off a zero-sum competition among conferences that undercut the management of college sports as a cooperative enterprise. Re-alignment, expansion, facilities arms races etc.
