One last world on SNL UK which I watched last night and found it to be a total car crash, couldn't tell the difference between what was a sketch and what was an advert between the show. Then woke up to a load of UK comedians (many of who are either working on the show or are friends with people working on the show) enthusiastically posting how great it was in this weird sort of "dear commrade we have to support the industry" tone. Listen It's just the same Oxbridge crap we've been served up for sixty years repackaged under an SNL brand. I'm glad everyone involved can pay of their student loan for whatever media studies or theatre degree they did, but not one man in the street is watching that shit and no out of work TV producer or failed TV presenter posting on twitter is going to change my mind. As the fake laughter reverberates through the echo chamber of UK comedy with the many medium talents (who've denigrated the industry and turned it into just another job) boot lick the bureaucratic commissioning class in their desperation for "employment" remember each episode costs anywhere from 1 - 2 million pounds(I don't have the figures but that's my estimate) to make and market. Just think how many indie sit-coms or weird sketch shows you could make for that instead we get this hooray for Hollywood crap that we have to say is good simply because it got commissioned. Thank you America for letting us give your outdated format one last pumping before Lorne Michales succumbs to Alzheimer's. The pea brained will yell and shout and say just be happy some comedy got commissioned at all but that is because they themselves are mere line managers at a giant factory of shit production intoxicated by the rancid feces they produce. TV is dead already, it got 250,000 views which is about the same as I SHOW SPEED gets when he says hello on Twitch, this is a desperate last attempt by the current generation of gormless TV people to take a brand an inject British Comedy in it to get some eyeballs to sell some advertising and justify their highly paid salary in an industry that is all but dead. The sooner Iran aims a missile at the studio it's filmed in the better. My DM's are of course open if any industry want to get in touch about how we can actually save UK comedy.
