In the St Peter’s ward contest, Labour’s Atta ul‑Rasool — previously vice‑chair of the Ashton‑under‑Lyne Labour branch — won the seat by a margin of 177 votes over independent candidate Ahmed Mehmood. The two individuals accused of being “fake” independents collectively received 291 votes. Notably, St Peter’s was the only ward in Tameside to elect a Labour councillor on 7 May; Reform UK captured the remaining 18 seats, leaving the council with no overall control.
