Is anything wrong with SIKAR? We analysed the 2024 data when credible reports emerged about paper leak in Sikar. This is what we found: In 2024, to get into a government medical college, you needed a score of about 650. In Sikar, the percentage of students who scored 650+ was 7.48% as compared to a national average of 1.29%. That is 580% higher. In fact, Sikar claimed 7 % of the total medical seats in India. Assuming that coaching is having an impact on the success rates, we compared Sikar with another coaching hub - Kota and found Sikar results to be twice as good. With identical student volumes at about 27,000 students each, Sikar produced nearly TWICE the number of 650+ scorers (2,037 vs 1,066) at almost double the percentage (7.48% vs 3.93%). So, @careers360 went deeper into the center level success rates. We found some centers in Sikar dramatically outperforming others. One center - Tagore P.G. College, had a success rate of 12.36% (10X of national average). 44 of the 356 students at this center got 650+ and 74 scored 600+ scores. Very unusual concentration in a single center. Another center - Yash Public Sr. Sec. School had a 10.36% success of 650+ scorers. Unusual. Some centers in Sikar were as good as others. For example: Bhartiya Public School had 962 students appear and only 27 crossed 650 marks - a mere 2.81%. Similarly, B.S. Memorial P.G. College had a success rate of 3.12%. We have data. Sikar is outperforming and is an outlier. And some centers within Sikar are influencing this result. The correct thing to do is to examine and investigate the outlier results and come clean. PM Modi personally fact-checked a CNBC-TV18 source-based story claiming the govt was actively considering a cess on foreign travel. The upper middle class and the Richie Rich crowd has been up in arms following this news. After all, it’s their summer holiday season - how dare the govt even float an idea like this? Notably, it wasn’t the PIB but Modi himself who stepped in to deny any such move. As a former journalist, I know one thing for sure. This wasn’t a figment of the reporter’s imagination. The source planted the story for one of the two reasons: • As a trial balloon to test the waters OR • To kill the ill-conceived proposal the govt was foolishly toying with. Well the purpose has been achieved! However, what truly baffles me is how the same Narendra Modi stays absolutely silent when fake news with far graver consequences is peddled by his lapdog medial every single day. He says nothing when “govt sources” are quoted to spread venom and hatred. He stays quiet even when anchors and his IT cell trolls “capture” Islamabad and Karachi, embarrassing India globally. He doesn’t fact-check them because it doesn’t affect the affluent. He doesn’t step in because that fake news never touches the rich - it threatens specific communities, it endangers ordinary Indians. And so he doesn’t care. I also wonder why doesn’t the Prime Minister ever fact check his own lying MPs, ministers, dimwit spokespersons and his battalion of IT cell trolls? And the answer is quite simple: he is THE BIGGEST LIAR of them all. How can he call out their lying when he constantly lies without batting an eyelid himself!

Last night on @Ndtv, I asked the NTA director, courtesy @ShivAroor. There are 5 questions that bother me on the NEET paper leak and I asked: 1. Public MBBS seat costs about Rs.5 lacs while a private one costs Rs.1.5 crores. The financial incentive for families and brokers is far too high. How do you counter the imbalance? 2. NEET is pen & paper exam. The physical paper is transported to 5000+ Centers and at least 200,000 hands. The time gap is often weeks before the exam. How do we solve this? 3. Only NTA knows the extent of the leak. The fact that they cancelled the exam means it is substantial. What was the extent of the leak? 4. Was anyone punished for the 2024 leak fiasco? Can we have a white paper on what we learnt from 2024? 5. Can India reduce the dependence on a single entrance exam that determines the fate of students? If we have 50% weightage for school scores, we can curb the coaching mafia menace..

Imagine the country being led by someone who can’t even read basic files. This itself is the biggest crisis of all.
