You know what was one of the first questions I got from a student as a new lecturer (hall with 150 plus, overwhelmingly UK and a few EU students) the first day in my class at Bath Uni back in ‘02? It was asked in a cheeky manner but the subtext was clear. “You are from India. How did you get this job?” Stunned, embarrassing silence for a couple of seconds in the class before I responded - “You should know that work permit means that I am much better than each and every British and EU applicant. I am excellent. Any other question?” A few students clapped and cheered, while others remained silent. We moved on. I forget neither the question, nor those who remained silent. But I certainly draw comfort from those who cheered. My end of module evaluation was the best in the dept later 😊 (I had been a student on full scholarship for MA & then PhD & esrc postdoc in the U.K. for six years by then; this was my first day as a permanent lecturer)

2/3 The project will run until March 2026 (with possibility to extend). We are looking for someone who has experience of conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups (particularly on sensitive topics), and ideally has experience with carrying out systematic reviews.
