I got my substantive consultant job today at @nottmhospitals this morning. I started medical school 22 years ago and it’s been a hell of a journey, and I’m minded to think of all the people that helped me, thank you so much - my success is your success. Now the hard work begins.

@juliaisobela The “correct” answer to “what area of medicine are you thinking about?” is whatever rotation / placement you’re on! It’ll guarantee their engagement in teaching you. Only if / when they become a friend or mentor do you say what you REALLY want to do.

One time, a doctor on placement asked what specialties I’m interested in I replied with a few I quite like (GUM, derm, psych, GP..) and they, no word of a lie, replied ‘ah *softer* specialties’ 🙄 It’s so degrading to put down other specialties as being somehow easier or softer

As a year 5 consultant I’m delighted you’ve negotiated me a zero percent rise until 2027 thanks

Loads of stuff appearing about doctors being ideologically anti-tory and wanting to bring down the govt. Stuff like this: But you see most medicine is ideological and a bit political. I work in emergency medicine. I would love this government to go. Here’s why:

The problem with Britain is a large chunk of the population think its an outrage if a poor person spends a fraction of a food voucher on booze but don't bat an eye when private firms take 80% of food vouchers for their own profits

It annoys me so much when politicians say the UK response to #Covid19UK is such a success because the NHS was not overwhelmed. When you start with such a low bar it’s easy to achieve. Other countries started with trying to save the most lives, or not to have an outbreak at all.
