In hopes that Black-faced Spoonbills would successfully raise their chicks, habitat maintenance work was carried out on the islands at Namdong Reservoir, organised by the local NGO, Black-faced Spoonbill Friends. #EAAFlyway #BlackfacedSpoonbill #EAAFPBFS #EveryBirdCounts

Convention on Wetlands
Convention on Wetlands@RamsarConv·
In July 2025, the Convention on Wetlands launched the Global Wetland Outlook 2025 in the lead-up to the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Wetlands (COP15), which took place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from 23 to 31 July 2025. The Global Wetland Outlook 2025: Valuing, conserving, restoring and financing wetlands (GWO 2025) presents the most comprehensive global assessment of wetlands to date. It builds on the 2018 and 2021 editions and offers the latest scientific and economic data on wetland loss, degradation, and the urgent actions needed to reverse these trends. As Dr Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands aptly puts it “Wetlands bankroll the planet, yet we are still investing more in their destruction than in their recovery.” Find out what the report reveals via this link 👉global-wetland-outlook.ramsar.org/outlook

Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
BREAKING: CMS Parties have agreed on new or upgraded protections for 40 migratory species and populations at the close of #CMSCOP15 in Brazil, a major step for global wildlife conservation. From cheetahs and striped hyenas to snowy owls, giant otters and great hammerhead sharks, CMS Parties have backed stronger international action as new evidence shows many migratory species are moving closer to extinction. 🦦🦉🦈 The outcome also includes 15 new Concerted Actions, 10 new or updated species-focused Action Plans, and new multi-species conservation plans for regions such as the Amazon. Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
A major outcome from #CMSCOP15: Parties have officially approved the inclusion of 40 species in CMS Appendices I and/or II. 🐾 These decisions strengthen international action for migratory species across marine, terrestrial and avian ecosystems, helping drive stronger protection and greater cooperation across borders. While this is an important conservation step, it is also a reminder that these species are under serious pressure. The goal is that, through effective action, they will recover to a point where they no longer need this level of international attention and collaboration. 🌍 More updates on the newly listed species coming soon.

Human well‑being is closely tied to healthy wetlands, but these environments can only continue to support us if we treat them responsibly—protecting, restoring, and managing them with long‑term sustainability in mind. Our Women Changemakers this week are committed to the wise use of Wetlands and today we look at the work of Amy M. Lecciones Amy M. Lecciones, Vice President and Executive Director of the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, knows how to build community knowledge and capacity. She has seen how changing behaviour and empowering communities impacts conservation efforts. Discover how she is inspiring action in the wise use of wetlands. ramsar.org/person/amy-m-l… #womenandwetlands #wetlandconservation #IWD2026 #SustainableDevelopment #communitybasedconservation @society_phil

Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
A new step forward at #CMSCOP15: the launch of the Global Initiative on the Taking of Migratory Species (GTI)! Illegal and unsustainable taking of wildlife—driven largely by domestic use for food, local markets, cultural practices, and weak governance—has become one of the most urgent and escalating threats to migratory species worldwide. 🐦🐢 The GTI is expected to be a collaborative global effort under CMS that will bring stakeholders together address the drivers of illegal and unsustainable taking. It aims to improve data and monitoring, strengthen legal and policy frameworks, enhance community engagement, and raise awareness and reduce demand before exploitation escalates into large‑scale trade. 🤝⚖️📊 Watch the special event launch on 25 March at 13:45 Campo Grande / 17:45 London / 21:45 Dubai: youtube.com/watch?v=R_Qg3E…

Today at #CMSCOP15, Parties are discussing cross-cutting issues - topics that affect many species and shape conservation in practice. Swipe through to explore some of the issues on today’s agenda. 🔗 Ecological connectivity is about keeping the habitats and routes migratory species depend on connected. 👥 Communities and livelihoods highlights the role of local communities in making conservation work on the ground. 🌾 Pastoralism looks at how grazing lands used by livestock and wildlife can be managed to support habitats and coexistence. 🐞 Insect decline matters because insects are a key food source for many migratory species. 🚧 Infrastructure such as roads, dams and fences can disrupt migration if not planned carefully. Learn more by downloading the meeting document for each topic at cms.int/cop15docs
