Early Words Shape Future Brain: Genetic Link Between ADHD and Language A new study explores the intricate relationship between genetics and early language development, shedding light on how early vocabulary growth influences later cognitive and neurodevelopmental outcomes. Analyzing data from over 17,000 children, the research found genetic markers that correlate with the size of a child’s vocabulary in infancy and toddlerhood, and how these markers relate to future literacy skills, general intelligence, and the risk of ADHD and ASD. Key discoveries include the identification of genetic factors that not only contribute to early word production and comprehension but also demonstrate a developmental transition in their association with ADHD symptoms, reversing from infancy to toddlerhood.
