New data from the Institute of Public Affairs show the absurdity of Australia's net zero agenda. China releases as much CO2 in 12 days as Australia does in an entire year. While Canberra insists on shutting mines and dismantling baseload power, Beijing is busy building an empire of coal. China has almost 3,300 plants in total, with nearly 800 more in the pipeline. For every one coal plant in Australia, China operates 66 - up from 57 just four years ago. Australia is crippling its own economy to cut just 1% of global CO2, while China builds two new coal plants every week. Net zero is resulting in unilateral economic disarmament, but only across the West.

A new study finds that Antarctica has cooled since 2003. Using the high-resolution satellite record, researchers split the continent into 12 regions. While half warmed and half cooled, it was the cooling that dominated. The Antarctic Peninsula showed the strongest shift, cooling by -0.12 C per year (or about minus 2.2C in 18 years). Western land areas cooled the most, while the eastern ice shelves showed only weak, statistically insignificant warming. Elsewhere, trends, overall, were found to be flat. If CO2 were the main driver, Antarctica should be heating rapidly. Instead, the data show the continent is cooling.

A controlled study shows whales react to loud noise like a predator. Offshore wind construction uses pile driving, hammering foundations into the seabed. This produces intense underwater shock waves that travel for kilometers, causing whales to stop feeding and flee. Sperm whales, humpbacks, pilot whales and northern bottlenose whales all show the same response. Then, once constructed, ongoing operation of wind turbines creates continuous low frequency noise. That noise occupies the same range used for communication and navigation. Whales depend on sound for finding food, mates and orienting in the ocean. When their soundscape is disrupted, they suffer.

Direct air capture, or DAC, doesn't scale. Today, global CO2 emissions are about 36 gigatons per year. To capture that, 30,000 large-scale DAC plants would be required. Each plant costs up to $500 million, meaning a total build cost of around $15 trillion. Running them would take roughly 360 exajoules of energy (more than half of total global energy use) to heat the calciner to around 800 degrees C. Electricity can't do this. So each DAC plant would need a gas furnace and a ready supply of gas. Owing to this, a major study (Sekera & Lichtenberger) found many carbon capture systems actually emit more CO2 than they remove. Direct air capture is an expensive farce.

Wind and solar are made in China using fossil fuels. They are shipped to Britain using fossil fuels. And are installed using fossil fuels. Then every 15 years they need replacing, repeating the process. Nothing about that is secure (we are reliant on China) nor 'green' (they rely on great fossil fuel input and intensive mining).

If we want secure jobs, a safe climate for the future & true energy independence the only route is renewables. We know it works, it lower bills and makes us safe from energy shocks. We just need politicians brave enough to stand up to oil & gas lobby & their mates in Reform.

There is no energy transition. Oil, coal and gas still supply 87% of the world's energy - roughly the same share as 20 years ago. Despite trillions in subsidies, solar and wind barely register on the global chart, accounting for just 6.5% of the primary energy supply. Fossil fuel use keeps rising, particularly in China and India. The renewable revolution can still only power a small fraction of the planet, and only when the sun shines or the wind blows. This is the data the headlines leave out. The transition isn't happening. It's a slogan.

A gallon of jet fuel contains about 34 kWh of energy and weighs roughly 6 pounds. A lithium-ion battery storing the same energy weighs about 250 pounds. That density gap defines modern systems. Aviation runs on jet fuel. Shipping runs on bunker fuel. Agriculture runs on diesel. Nobody wages war over solar panels and turbines. Liquid fuels deliver high energy in compact form. Batteries do not. This is simple physics. Not "climate denial".

Did @BBCr4today really just do a whole package about drilling in the N Sea without once even mentioning #climate change? And not having anyone challenging the one-sided claims of former BP boss? So irresponsible #bbcr4today

A major US study analyzed 33 million deaths across more than 1,500 counties from 2000 to 2020. It found that cold kills far more people than heat. On average, there are roughly 72,000 deaths per year from cold, and 6,000 from heat - a ratio of about 12 to 1. Cold-related deaths have also increased over time, rising by around 9% since 2000. Most days fall below the optimal temperature for human health, meaning more exposure to cold than heat. A large driver is vulnerability. Housing, heating, and access to health care can determine outcomes. Warmth is beneficial. Cold is the dominant risk.

@TrisOsborneMP @MattSaysFingz We buy our solar panels and wind turbines from China, which uses fossil fuels to make them. How is this a secure and 'green' energy strategy? On top of that, panels and turbines need replacing every 15 years, requiring vast inputs and intensive mining.

@MattSaysFingz To be clear our energy strategy is to move away from being exposed to oil / gas market price volatility which is why we are heavily investing in renewables to secure future energy prices.

Britain smashed more renewable energy records last year. Wind delivered 30% of electricity, solar generation grew by 37% & UK emissions fell to 54% of 1990 levels. More clean power means more control over our energy security, bills and our future.

While Europe forces through rapid decarbonization—dismantling reliable capacity, raising energy costs, and ignoring the pain it’s inflicting on its citizens—China continues to expand coal power at scale, securing cheap, stable energy for its industrial base. European governments appear to have been captured—if not by outright foreign interference, then at least by stupidity. Full breakdown (and more): electroverse.substack.com/p/april-opens-…

@Electroversenet China peaked & will CUT total emissions in the next decade. They have the same Net Zero goal as Europe only a decade later. They are electrifying transport faster. Only in China would you spend billions on unneeded coal power stations but burn less coal! Weird to us. It's backup.

Almost 80% of UK Met Office stations have error margins of up to 2C, with many as bad as 5C. Yet the same agency claims new records down to a hundredth of a degree. Of the UK's 380 stations, only 14% meet World Meteorological Organization standards. The rest sit beside roads, buildings or runways, places like Heathrow and St James' Park. According to the WMO, almost half of UK stations are rated Class 4, unreliable, with a third rated Class 5, effectively junk. These distorted readings feed climate emergency headlines and Net Zero policies. Meanwhile, satellite and high-grade US datasets show only slight warming - a continuation of the post-Little Ice Age temperature rise. But those don't serve the narrative, so they're routinely ignored.
