Big day at the @NYCCouncil, where we passed my bills to create a permanent Office of the Census and to require that schools and child care centers have EpiPens. As always, grateful to my colleagues and the advocates who helped make these wins possible.

To Dina and everyone who shared their story, thank you. As a mom, I know this legislation to require EpiPens in schools and child care centers will be a relief for so many families.

Honored to celebrate the Elijah-Alavi Foundation @Elijahsecho at yesterday’s NYC bill signing. The new legislation builds on Elijah’s Law to expand access to weight-based epinephrine and staff training in all city schools and childcare programs.

Thanksgiving should be a table of gratitude, not worry. When we prepare with intention, label with love, and communicate with care, we create a celebration where everyone feels protected, included, and safe. instagram.com/p/DRXdYCjEec2/…

Early introduction is great news for future kids — definitely something to celebrate. But it doesn’t change the reality for the millions of children and adults who already have severe peanut allergies. For them, exposure on a packed airplane still isn’t a minor inconvenience — it can be life-threatening. So while prevention research moves forward, we still need policies that keep current allergic passengers safe. Let’s not turn scientific progress into an excuse to roll back essential protections. I’ve never understood how a snack — any snack — could matter more than someone’s health. What really makes planes unsafe isn’t the peanuts themselves, but passengers who forget to show empathy.

Did you see this? A quick-thinking teen saved his mom—and himself—when she had her 1st anaphylactic reaction to peanuts while driving. Adult-onset food allergies are rising. Learn what happened. Also learn how consumers are weighing voluntary allergen labeling when buying foods:

A cheap laugh in a script doesn’t stay on the page. It shapes how teachers, coworkers, restaurants, and airlines respond to people with food allergies. This isn’t about censoring comedians. It’s about recognizing that humor has weight — and when it targets a medical condition that kills in minutes, the results can be devastating. Grateful to @kevinmd for giving the patient advocate a voice
