Brilliant news for children living in poverty - the two-child limit will be scrapped! This will allow children to dream bigger, learn without limits and grow up knowing they are valued. With child poverty levels in the UK at a record high this is welcome news for families up and down the country. Currently 1 in every 9 children live in a home impacted by the policy.

Far too many families feel overlooked and ignored. As a member of @EndChildPoverty we are calling on all parties to commit to action so that every child in Scotland can have the best possible start in life and our country can prosper in the future.

Child poverty is falling in Scotland - but not fast enough. With members of @EndChildPoverty in Scotland we are calling for more action to tackle the drivers of child poverty, to build on the progress made and work towards a Scotland where all children have the best start in life. We are calling on all all political parties to deliver clear plans to meet Scotland’s 2030 child poverty targets. Read our manifesto: tinyurl.com/ympvdss9

The government's 'Tackling Child Poverty Strategy' is published today. A document which finally puts children experiencing poverty front and centre of government decision making. Read our response, and the response from someone who has grown up in poverty, below 👇

Thea, a mum impacted by the two-child limit, speaks powerfully about the impact this policy has on her and other families impacted: "Austerity-era policies like the two-child limit frame poverty as a “lifestyle choice”. Yet the economic pressures crushing vulnerable families are pounding everyone else too – astronomical childcare, rent, and living costs, with wages falling in real terms. Nobody chose these.  This political story about “choices” blames the most vulnerable for “breaking the economy,” when in reality the same broken economy is breaking us all." bigissue.com/opinion/two-ch…

With the fantastic news of the cruel 2 child limit being scrapped, this is just the start of the fight to end child poverty. Make sure you read the below thoughts from @BevanFoundation's CEO @SteffHEvans on where we go next ⬇️
Steffan Evans@SteffHEvans

Scrapping the 2 child limit will make a difference to the lives of thousands of children across Wales but it must be the start and not the end of our work to solve child poverty. My thoughts on what should happen next @BevanFoundation bevanfoundation.org/views/two-chil…

Hi there, we all pay for all kids. We know that having free education and healthcare for all children - paid for by the state - is a benefit to us all. Yet when it come to families living in poverty we are less keen to help. No child should grow up in poverty, and this is the most cost effective way to lift kids out.

🚨 NEW: 45% of UK adults agree that scrapping the two-child limit is the most effective way to tackle child poverty. When the public get more info about the two-child limit, they are in favour of it being scrapped, which is the action the UK Govt correctly took at the Budget.

I’m SICK of people attacking those on benefits. I’ll say one more time. I had a partner and a beautiful family. But sadly he died. I had 4 kids by myself. I didn’t have family to help step in. I ended on benefits because I couldn’t afford childcare. My kids were 3yr, 5yr, 6yr and 15yrs old. You’re only ever one tragedy away from ending up on benefits. STOP judging when you don’t know people’s story’s. Also many people on benefits work. Why should they have to top up their wages? Shouldn’t companies pay liveable wages in the first place? It’s more like corporation subsidies imho. You’re blaming the wrong people. It’s the system that works against us not the people themselves.

All kids deserve the best start in life. No matter how many siblings they have, or what jobs their parents have, or if someone in their household has a disability. All deserve a good childhood – not just because it will set them up for a stronger future, but because they’re kids.

Here is something else to have a look at endchildpoverty.org.uk/child-poverty-… The root cause of child poverty is lack of income, via work, benefits or a combination of the two. And because the cost of raising a child has significantly increased. Providing services is important, but unless these put money into the pockets of people in low income households poverty remains. Obviously this is a short bit of text about a much bigger issue. But very happy to answer questions.

@EndChildPoverty @BBCBreakfast Interesting. Especially the demographics. As Lord Blunkett said yesterday, throwing benefit cash at the problem isn’t an holistic solution to the problem. Why are people in those areas so in need of the extra money? What is the root cause? I didn’t see the analysis on that.

A quick reminder: Lots of people on Universal Credit are 👏 in 👏 work 👏 Wages are just so low that even with a Universal Credit top up people still can't afford food and bills.

'I think it's only fair that those that are on benefits face the same kind of decisions as those that are working hard, paying taxes and paying for those benefits' Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride told #BBCBreakfast the Conservatives would reverse the decision in the Budget to scrap the two-child benefit cap bbc.co.uk/news/live/cy8v…

Every child deserves the best possible start in life. That’s why we welcome the decision to scrap the two-child limit on benefits. Across Wales, 11% of all children live in a family whose benefit payments are reduced by the policy – that’s over 70,000 children. @EndChildPoverty

Big announcement from the Budget! After years of campaigning, Gingerbread welcomes the end of the two-child limit. This cruel policy trapped families in poverty and left children without essentials. Today is a step toward fairness and supporting single parents.
