Lovely evening with my friends and neighbours, dining and raising money for local charities, including the restoration of St Michael’s church. And a jolly marvellous time was had by all!

Tonight is Stockwell parish’s penultimate week hosting the @RobesSleepout winter night shelter for 2026. Thanks to our marvellous volunteers, including tonight Andrew Chair of Robes. He tells me that since Nov 25 Robes have found secure homes for 49 out of 79 guests!

Every year my local RA has a huge dinner in aid of local charities, including the church. I didn’t get the emails this year, assumed it was the same weekend as last. I was away then so didn’t pursue. But just found out it’s tonight! And Cinder-Erica, you shall go to the ball!

Today’s vicarage garden delight: Japanese peony, cardoon, and purple iris all trimmed and quivering with spring anticipation. I almost prefer them like this to actually flowering- very sculptural and full of hope. No snails allowed!

Update: the culprit deliberately kicked the gate off its hinges and broke the lintel. They would have to have kicked it hard. Deliberately, for no reason as I always leave the gate open. It was certainly open last night. Oh and it wasn’t a sock but underwear! 🤮No I didn’t touch

Somebody broke and did this to my front gate. I brought in the bins last night at 9.30pm and it was fine. But when I opened the front door at 7.57am it was like this. And there’s a dock in the path. Nothing else appears to be disturbed. Weird.

Great to meet with fellow UK Overseas Territory Representatives at today's Christian Embassy lunch. A wonderful opportunity to meet up with fellow Christians from Westminster and the Diplomatic Corps. 🇫🇰🇬🇮🇰🇾🇸🇭🇹🇨

Of course, I plan on working until I drop or until the darling C of E chucks me out, but it’s good to know I won’t starve if Our Lord has other plans.

Well! I’ve just checked online the new up-estimate on my pension when I retire (finally). The amount is £6,000pa more with an increase of £20,000 to the lump sum. With the state pension, I’ll have as much p.a.income as I do now. Still saving hard re housing but thank you @synod!

2026- the inaugural daily Vicarage Garden Delight: The first morning it’s warm enough for elevenses coffee in the garden, while admiring my first cut spring self-mowed lawn.

Now spring is here, I’m taking a break from my sermon marathon (2 down 6 to go) and mowed my lawn. I job I detest, but my gardener has retired and I need to save money. A great deal of procrastination and it took all of 39 minutes including 2 emptying of the clippings thingy

On Wednesday 25 March, the Installation of the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury will take place at Canterbury Cathedral. The Installation is the moment when the Archbishop is formally seated in the cathedral. It marks the beginning of her public ministry. Due to my huge gas bill and paying for two pilgrimages, I postponed my regular 8 week hair appointment by a month. Just went to rebook for payday, and found out my hairdresser is away that week. So now it has to be on 9/4. It’s going to be like lockdown all over again…

OK, Operation Passiontide begins. 1 have a fortnight to write 8 sermons & prepare Holy Week and Easter services. Last year I had Mtr Roxanne from the Cathedral preaching, but this year it’s back to being the sole cleric. But I have a fabulous lay team, a spreadsheet and a donkey

It’s almost warm today… as long as you keep moving.

Mothering Sunday at St Michael’s Stockwell. Thank you God for all who care for us, especially our mothers and grandmothers. Pray for the repose of the souls of those we love but see no longer.
