Depends on the hackathon, I was a judge at @ETHBerlin last year and was totally blown away with how creative and cutting edge the entries were. I have however seen a lot of what Gajesh is talking about here, integration games to chase sponsored bounties kills a hackathon.

dude if i stepped back into the hackathon circuit today, i’d sweep every prize available. web3 hackathons have become painfully uncreative lately (with rare exceptions)—most winners today are just recycled versions of stuff built 1-2 years ago with integrations into whatever new sponsor bounty is available but instead, this year i’m doubling down on open-source and building cool things at Eigen not ego, just facts. accelerate.

@0xJim @ETHBerlin without a doubt, been two times, first as a hacker second as a mentor - nothing comes close - it's so Ethereum aligned, it's unreal. The DoD also organise a second more niche unconference called @protocol_berg , which i'll get to go to for the first time this year.

will probably just skip ethcc this summer — just too expensive to justify would love to see a conference like @CelestiaOrg’s Rejected where builders actually get to vote onchain on the location and talks dms open for anyone who wants to fork ethcc
