2025 was the deadliest year on record for Rohingya fleeing persecution by sea. Nearly 900 Rohingya refugees died or went missing in the attempt, according to the UN refugee agency (@Refugees).

Families in Mozambique are being forced to flee once again. This time, it’s due to devastating floods, on top of the ongoing conflict. Needs are rising fast, and protection risks are growing. UNHCR and partners are responding, but more support is urgently needed.

I saw how refugees have access to healthcare, education, and play an active part in society benefiting the whole community. This is how we move from aid dependency to self-reliance. Kenya is doing its part. It needs greater international support.

Today marks 1,000 days since the start of the conflict in #Sudan. Millions have fled, with 900,000+ refugees in #Chad - an average of ~900 people a day. The scale of suffering is devastating. Peace is urgently needed. Until then, we'll keep saving lives & help people rebuild.

Today marks 1000 days of war in #Sudan. A tragedy for millions of people impacted by this brutal conflict. Days can be counted, but the continued suffering of our Sudanese brothers & sisters, & refugees they host is immeasurable. The conflict must end. Peace & solutions. Now.

Today I begin my tenure as High Commissioner for @Refugees. Guided by our shared humanity and legal mandate, we will work with our partners and host nations, to protect refugees, deliver durable solutions, and confront the displacement crises affecting millions of people.

This month alone, 85,000 Congolese refugees fled violence to Burundi. Another 500,000 were displaced in the Dem Rep of Congo. Neither country has the resources to cope. Pending progress in peace talks, aid agencies need urgent funding to save lives and avert a deadly emergency.
