@CaitlinPacific This is likely a selection effect and not a causal effect of the major, IMO. Kids choosing majors like philosophy and math are probably much smarter (and affluent) than their peers.

When young people have no idea what they should major in, I tell them to pick the hardest thing that they have some natural talent in. With few exceptions (philosophy is one) the hardest disciplines lead to the best paying jobs.
