I’m proud to announce that this year, I’m launching the Make Education Fashionable Awards 2025, which come with R150,000 in prizes, to recognise graduates who are using their education to make an impact. Nominations are officially open and close on 10 November. Nominate yourself or someone you know deserves celebration. Click the link in bio for more info. At the end of the day, education remains the most reliable equaliser. Let’s keep proving that education is still the most fashionable thing there is❤️

I often wonder if this point landed in 2018. I do not lead to be liked. I lead to do what works. At the time, there was a lot of noise about my relationship with black students. But leadership is not about appeasing groups, it is about protecting the institution and its purpose. UCT needed stability, UCT needed the academic project restored and that is what I focused on. No favours, no performance, just work. Let’s revisit this conversation as I speak to John Perlman again today at 17:30 on Talk Radio 702 #LeadershipDebate #UCT #TruthAboutLeadership #FabAcademic

@FabAcademic You are the embodiment of round pegs in square holes! Reminds me of a great quote by Steve Jobs!

New glasses? Who dis? Decided my frames needed to match my personality. A little structured, a little non-mainstream and full colour.
One square. One round. Zero compromises.
New look, same mission: bring joy and intellect into every room.

@FabAcademic I never forget you looking so bright and colourful many moons ago at my sisters Wits Graduation! It was so good to see that women in leadership, who are well educated can dress as bright as they please! Loved it ❤️❤️

True. Had they not “dealt with” me, I would still be at UCT — still medicated for depression and anxiety, possibly no longer here at all (suicide). Instead, they set me free. They made me a multimillionaire, taught me that my life is far more precious than any institution, and gave me the greatest gift: the chance to choose myself. Today I work for me, on my own terms. I’m watching my first grandchild grow, living fully, and standing tall — never charged, never suspended, and unbothered — three years later. They’re still angry about it and they work hard to stop my every move in academia. But the world is bigger. Here is a lesson to every woman watching: when your detractors come for you, play as rough as they do, use every policy in the book, make your demands, and then choose yourself. Never die at work. I outsmarted them, and I’m thriving. #StillStanding
