The official non-profit of the Fire Department of the City of New York (@FDNY) dedicated to supporting the lifesaving mission of New York’s Bravest.

On Thursday, 143 Probationary EMTs graduated from the EMS Academy. “As you graduate today, you become the heartbeat of our city’s frontline medical response,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “When you put on that uniform, you’re telling eight million people: I am here, and you are safe, and you are the living proof that our mission to protect New York never wavers.” The new EMTs will be assigned to units throughout New York City. 38 EMS members were also promoted during this ceremony. They were promoted to the ranks of Captain and Lieutenant. Chief Kathleen Knuth was also promoted to Assistant Chief of EMS Operations, the first woman to hold that title in Department history. “Today is not just a recognition of what you have done, it is a commitment to those you now lead. Your members are watching you for direction, consistency and support, and you are the strength they rely on when it matters most,” said Chief of EMS Operations Paul Miano.
