Before 2022, no Korean artist had ever headlined Lollapalooza Chicago, the festival's flagship event. On July 31, 2022, j-hope changed that—becoming the first Korean artist to headline a major US festival.
In an interview, Lollapalooza festival director Houston Powell said, "I knew a little bit about BTS, but not K-pop in general. I was honored that he would do, really, his first live solo show here, but I underestimated how big of a needle mover that was, how much of a cultural moment that was. Thank you to j-hope for introducing me to a new world of music that is completely expanding my horizons and made this show a lot better."
