The Okavango region of Botswana & Namibia is one of the finest wildlife habitats left on earth. An oil & gas exploration company, ReconAfrica, listed in Canada & Germany but with strong US links, has begun test-drilling on the Namibian side. nationalgeographic.com/animals/articl…

In other news... While the huge fuss about Megan & Harry plays out, John Kerry, Biden’s climate envoy, has been in London warning about the cataclysm facing every single one of us in the near future. He’s scarcely had a look-in.

What’s the use in rich countries vaccinating their populations against COVID if virus left to circulate & mutate into strains, which vaccines are less effective against, in other parts of the world? We need global cooperation.
Hay Festival@hayfestival

"Our biggest health challenges are interconnected." - @devisridhar gave a prescient talk on global health alongside @ChelseaClinton at Hay Festival 2018. Worth another watch over on #HayPlayer now bit.ly/2ISTQOY

The situation in the NHS is very serious and the number of people in ICU is rising rapidly. We are improving our knowledge on how best to treat people in ICU thanks to research, but hundreds of people a day are currently dying. We must all take the lockdown very seriously.

BREAKING: The NIHR-supported @remap_cap trial shows that patients receiving tocilizumab and a second drug called sarilumab can reduce the relative risk of death by 24% when administered to patients within 24 hours of entering intensive care. #Covid19 nihr.ac.uk/news/arthritis…

Please note that when the Prime Minister makes his announcement tonight, any changes he makes to “national measures” apply to England only. Here in Wales we already have stay at home restrictions. Diolch to you all for staying home - you are protecting our NHS and saving lives.

London: 242 cases per 100 000 moves to tier 3 Wales: 450 cases per 100 000 (up to 2100 some areas). Worried people won’t do as they are told, so not worth trying. We need a better explanation than that. #COVID19

Here’s Fliss Bennee, Co-Chair of the Technical Advisory Group, explaining the science and data behind the decision to advise a two week firebreak. Coronavirus is going to be with us for a long time, but if we act now we can stop further spread and protect our NHS.

Extremely challenging times ahead. This isn't a conspiracy/fake news. This is a virus that has and will impact on all our lives. Providing care to all our patient groups will be harder than ever. This is why we need the public to follow the rules to help us help you this winter
