36 feels a lot like 35... with the exception of the awareness that 40 is now edging closer 😂 🎈 🎂

@MattH_4America -42°C. Then -40 is where Celsius and Fahrenheit, so my récord is roughly the same on either scale. Hottest was 43°C (109°F), so fairly symmetrical in Celsius.

What's the coldest temperature you have ever experienced? (not the wind chill) For me, -2

@SoloTravelStory Brilliant. I also had a funny moment with your solo destination guide. I saw a post pass me by, thought the photo looked familiar and did a quick search to confirm it was Helsinki (Senate square, right?). Only after going through that process did I realise it was yours 🤣

@flholst It's gorgeous right? It will be stunning once it'll operate as a hotel again. There's a bus connection from Oradea to Satu Mare. I'll share more in my newsletter next week. 🙌🏽

The gorgeous Dacia Hotel in Satu Mare, Romania, has been extensively refurbished. Earlier this month, its exterior façade was revealed. I am so pleased that this Hungarian Secession gem has been preserved and now shines brand new. Picture Credit: Primaria Muncipiului Satu Mare

It seems like @BBCMoreOrLess and @MonkEmma would be a good match - if she’s looking for work and they’re looking for people. Providing context feels closely related to always asking «Is that a big number?» 😃

Last week the @Daily_Express ran with the following front page. So obviously I had to take a look! Is it true? How does it compare to other professions? Because anyone familiar with British RW media discourse knows they reserve a special venom for civil servants…🤷🏼‍♀️ 🧵 1/25

@SoloTravelStory @TantuBeats Love this. I often want to buy little musical gadgets and instruments. Last were some drum things I saw at Dussmann. Definitely not musically gifted - or sufficiently patient to put in the practice. And I don’t have a song to get out. I hope it brings you lots of joy 😃

@nthntrvls Thanks. I always love tweaking and stretching my options, but I’m not much of a rule breaker - I wouldn’t want to be stuck in some foreign port and I don’t mess with immigration authorities 🪪

@flholst I worked on several cruise lines in guest services role and planned embark /debark in foreign ports generally weren’t an issue if non-Jones Act &, all necessary docs in hand. You would be required to be present on arrival to port for clearance with customs.

So, if you’re late returning from a day on shore, would your cruise ship allow you to board again in a later port, @emmacruises? Assuming you can get yourself there. On a fairly standard Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise.

@emmacruises Thanks, Emma. I would definitely do that if it ever came to pass. I want to find solutions, but I’m definitely a problem solver rather than a rule breaker 😃

@flholst In theory yeah, but you would have to check with the cruise line, totally their call :)

@nthntrvls And I thought I was going to leave it at that, but the next question is almost a given: Would they let you plan something similar? Call it a self-organised multi-day shore excursion.

@nthntrvls Ah, that bit. I hadn’t considered that, as it would be a (hypothetical) case of rejoining a ship/itinerary that was in compliance. Thanks again :-)

@nthntrvls Thanks. And just because you put in the caveat: Why not US ports? Assuming I have my passport and a valid esta or visa. Though I guess the US will more usually be the start/end port and less often an intermediate stop.

@flholst Yes, happily providing not a US port. The port agent will normally liaise with you and the ship.

When someone compliments your choice of reading material - «Sounding man - essays on the oceans, the depths and curiosity» - for a short flight in Sweden and then adds: «I designed the cover» 😃 …and then gives me a heads-up that the author has a new book coming out next week.

@kejamieson_ @hautecommetrois Good luck with the upgraded ingredients. And I hope you understand that we all want - no, we NEED - a follow-up. Whether it’s a resolution or more of a «the saga continues» scenario. Also, it feels like I should deviate from my standard order of phad thai next time 🇹🇭

@hautecommetrois So I did wonder whether I should use palm sugar instead of the sugar it told me to use in the recipe, they sell it in Tesco so I might grab some this week and I've just ordered some holy basil instead of Thai Basil online 😂

Right, I have tried something, and I have failed, and it is time to ask the internet. My favourite Thai food is Pad Kra Pao. Every time I order it from a Thai restaurant it tastes the same. I followed a recipe on allrecipes to the letter. It's nice, but it's not right.

@radiomukhers @Waterstones At last. I’ve been waiting for them to make a return. Waterstones might not be the best option for me this time, but I’ll make a note of the date 📚 🇮🇳

@SoloTravelStory Yup. And it’s several factors: total volume, distribution (high pressure in some areas with other places much quieter) and rapid growth in visitors without enough transport, accommodation, toilets… And for some stuff, e.g. ferries, locals and tourists «competing» for space.

@flholst I've heard about Northern Norway through the Overtourism exhibition in Vienna last year. Lots of regions across Europe are suffering not just cities 😭
