PLEASE please watch this and talk about trans people in India. They have now introduced a new bill which criminalises transitioning and helping someone in doing so.

“I naturally gravitate to people who speak that same language. But life has also taught me something else: not everyone was given that language.” just finished reading a mind-blowing article on Medium. Survival mode turned on for a while, and I have been feeling tired lately, but seeing how horribly this occupation wants me died.. makes me think of the importance of our spirit, patience and long term resistance.. ANYWAYS, these are wild plants from Gaza saying: “we are here”!

The Rowan tree is well known for its use as a potent charm against fairies and magic 🌳🪄 Known as 'caorthann' in Irish, it is believed that carrying a stick of Rowan will allow a person to enter the domain of the fairies and walk freely there unscathed ✨ In one tale a man carrying a green stick of Rowan wood, enters a stone fairy circle and manages to steal a magical cup without coming to the attention of the fairy folk residing there ...escaping at leisure with his ill gotten gains 🍒🏆

A blind harpist named Turlough O'Carolan was said to have been the last of the great Irish bards yet before he fell asleep atop a fairy mound his music was far from special 🪉 As he slept upon the doorway to the home of the Fair Folk their music from below filled his dreams and imagination so that when he awoke the magic of their tunes ran forever through his head 🪄 In fact, it was widely believed that all the great music of Ireland has either been bestowed upon mortals or has been, in effect, stolen from the fairies by those who have laid their ear to a fairy mound 🎶

The sun starts to rise towards mid-archway now as we head towards Summer. The first one I have had this year as it was so quiet up there this morning. Taken in St Michael's tower on Glastonbury Tor.

• With so many conversations happening around supporting sapphic work, and making sure no one feels left out while learning what “sapphic” means for the first time, here are some graphics to help build a clearer, more inclusive understanding of the community.

Yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the support I received for my speech in Parliament. Many of you shared it widely, I had not posted it myself. I am now sharing the full speech again so those who missed it can watch how this government is excluding and targeting some of the most marginalised sections of our society. The fight will continue. We will not allow the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and transgender persons to be diluted, and we will ensure that their dignity, identity, and constitutional protections remain intact. This Bill is a double assault on the transgender community’s dignity and rights: • While every MP in Parliament self declares their gender without scrutiny, transgender citizens are being forced to prove their identity before a medical board and the District Magistrate • From childhood, we are boxed into blue for boys and pink for girls, but identity is deeply personal and constitutionally protected • At a time when the LGBTQIA+ community is still fighting for recognition of same sex marriage, this government is taking us backwards by removing even the right to self identification • No meaningful consultation with the transgender community or stakeholders, despite Supreme Court led processes • The Bill invades privacy, enables discrimination, and opens the door to criminalisation This is not reform, this is regression. Not protection, but policing of identity. As Mahatma Gandhi reminded us, “The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.”

In England, the Cherry tree has a close association with the cuckoo and it was said that the cuckoo would not sing each year until he had eaten his fill of cherries 🌸 In Ireland, the tree is known as Silín and there are two native species, the Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) and the Bird Cherry (Prunus padus) 🍒 Both are very important to biodiversity with the Wild Cherry is by far the more common of the two species.

I got the rejection email today. I didn't have any luck with the Australian Geographic photo comp this year. No need for sympathy. I'm used to it. It's very competitive. Here's one of my unsuccessful entries. A yellow-tailed rock wallaby at Boolcoomatta Reserve.
