Beaches at Sandy Hook are closed for swimming today, August 24, due to hazardous conditions. We expect to open for swimming later today.

Swimming will be prohibited at all Gateway National Recreation Area beaches on Friday, August 22 due to the hazardous conditions expected from Hurricane Erin. Updates will be provided concerning beach access.

Swimming will be prohibited at all Gateway National Recreation Area beaches on Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21 due to the hazardous conditions expected from Hurricane Erin. While swimming is prohibited, the beach will remain open for visitors.

Beaches at Jacob Riis Park and Sandy Hook remain closed to swimming and wading today, August 20. Follow lifeguard instructions and stay safe.

Due to rip currents, Jacob Riis and Sandy Hook beaches will remain closed on Monday, August 19. Swimming & wading are not permitted. Beachgoers are advised to strictly follow lifeguards' directions to stay safe.

Beach parking lots are full at #SandyHook. The park will close at 1:15. We expect to reopen later this afternoon.

Between Monday, November 6th and Friday, November 10th, sections of the Multiple Use Path (MUP) at the Sandy Hook Unit will be closed to the public. The contractor will be applying paint to the surface between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
