Yeah, playing in bands in the 80s, touring squats in Europe, fighting skinheads every weekend, staying at Dial House, getting drunk with Joe Strummer, getting kicked out of CBGB’s… it was all larping because I was “late.” Ten years of mind-blowing fun doesn’t hold a candle to some old queer who saw a show early.

@Strangeland15 @Gavin_McInnes Yeah I know he pretends like he was there during the punk movement but he wasn't, he was a punk revivalist in Canada. Where they just played Punk you know like playing Barbie. He was like 6 years old when the punk movement happened in the UK.

Nope. NYC was black leather jackets. When Johnny Rotten saw Sid wearing one, he knew he’d crossed over to the dark side.

@Gavin_McInnes Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren opened SEX as a Warhol-like fashion statement, but the real punk aesthetic came from NYC. The UK simply adopted the fashion. I mean McLaren even created the Sex Pistols as a fashion statement. It was by pure luck that they were actually good.

Saw them in 86 with Zen Slap at One Step Beyond. Nazi skinheads showed up to fight Chi Pig because they were that desperate for minorities. The band put down their instruments and laid into them with the rest of us. It was life-changing.

@Gavin_McInnes What about SNFU? They had a very good run throughout the 80s and 1 gem in the 90s

Richard Hell keeps saying that because his music sucked. The punk aesthetic came from Vivienne Westwood and her obsession with tartan, bondage, and cruelty. youtu.be/xHKuxlXyWgA?si…

@Gavin_McInnes Isn't it true that the British adopted the clothespins/style from NY punks (like the Heartbreakers) who needed them to keep their clothes together, while the British simply used them for fashion? I believe Richard Hell commented on this. Regardless, great stuff came from the UK.

They were glam. American punk (not HC) was very rare. Dead Kennedys Dead Boys Germs …

@Gavin_McInnes It sounds like you don’t think any American bands qualified as punk, just hardcore. What about New York Dolls?

The great thing about HC was it was all about local bands. The MRR scene reports put Boise, Idaho and Guelph, Ontario on the same level as London and New York. We had zero interest in the “cool” bands of the time.

@Gavin_McInnes I'm more into the 70s stuff, Saints, Stranglers, Buzzcocks, Dead Boys, Heartbreakers, X-Ray Spex, Slaughter and the Dogs, X (Australia), and countless region acts like the Mentally Ill, Dow Jones and the Industrials, and basically anything on a Killed by Death compilation.
