Big shoutout to Patty Mundo, who leads Glendale’s Vegetation Management Program, for training the LA County Weed Abatement Division this week. She covered fuel types, fire behavior, and defensible space—core skills that help reduce hazardous vegetation in our fire prone areas. Plus: LA County Weed Abatement clears 10 feet of overgrown vegetation along Figueroa Road every year, improving responder access and helping slow fire spread. Stronger partnerships. Smarter mitigation. Collaboration keeps Glendale safer.

Engineer Leslie Scott of Engine 26 hosted a troop of Girl Scouts, sharing her story, showcasing career paths for women, and mentoring the next generation. Girls supporting girls. Women leading the way. The best part of our day.

We honored former Fire Chief Richard Hinz with a flag ceremony, joined by family, friends, retirees, and members. Chief Hinz dedicated decades to public service, leaving a lasting impact on our department and city. His legacy of leadership and commitment will not be forgotten.
