It was called the MSRE, for molten salt reactor experiment. They did the actual nuclear physics. They actually shut it down for the weekends, something you can't do with ordinary behemoth (light water reactors). It even fissioned the actinides created when the heavy metal (U233, created from thorium, was a new one, too) absorbs a neutron, rather than split when hit by a neutron. U233 actually creates slightly less actinides (the forever wastes), but I'm this reactor, it doesn't matter. You see, this is the forever fuel that both govt's and oil companies (and now, renewable energy companies) fiercely opposed. Do you think that the everyday media is going to shout it from the rooftops? Hell no, because they haven't for over half a century, now. They are on the side of pro scarcity. I figured this out on my own because it's obvious as plain daylight, but, in order for everyone else to figure it out, they have to take the "I want renewable energy" journey. I mean, I probably wouldn't have figured out it had I no known about the MSRE, had I not heard the news, George steppnopulous(?
