JINYOUNG became famous as the Vocalist, Visual, Centre and Face Genius of the hugely popular chart-topping, record-breaking Iconic Group #GOT7. He is celebrated for his amazing voice, striking visuals, versatile talents, and charismatic presence. He is also a professional dancer, and has built his career on a blend of music, acting, and high-profile endorsements, earning him a reputation as one of K-pop's most elegant and accomplished idols and a true pillar for GOT7 and Ahgases. Born in Jinhae-gu, Changwon, South Korea, he trained under JYP Entertainment and debuted young, showcasing a maturity that belies his age, often balancing boyish charm with refined sophistication. He began his career in 2012, debuting as part of the duo JJ Project alongside GOT7 leader Jay B, releasing their mini-album 'Bounce Back'. The song topped iTunes Charts in over 30 countries and debuted at #3 on the Worldwide iTunes Album chart and #12 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart! In January 2023 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his debut, JINYOUNG released the EP 'Chapter 0: With' which debuted at No. 1 on both the Worldwide and European iTunes album charts after topping iTunes Charts in 73 countries! The album reached #9 on the Circle Albums chart in Korea! Its title track "Cotton Candy" landed atop iTunes' charts in over 30 countries! JINYOUNG embarked on a series of fan concerts titled "Rendezvous: Secret Meeting Between You and Me", touring South Korea, Japan, the Philippines & Taiwan before enlisting in the military!
JINYOUNG is a hugely successful actor, and made his acting debut in the drama 'Dream High 2' in 2012, and his film debut in the independent film 'A Stray Goat' (2016). In 2019 he starred in 'He Is Psychometric' and in 2022 he was the lead actor in the Netflix film 'Yaksha: Ruthless Operations', 'Princess Aya' & 'A Christmas Carol'. JINYOUNG has won several accolades for his acting including 2 Asia Artist Awards in 2020 and 2021. In 2023 he won 3 Awards for his role in 'A Christmas Carol' including a Korean Association of Film Critics Award for 'Best New Actor' and 2 Baeksang Arts Awards for 'Best New Actor' and 'Most Popular Actor'! Most recently, on August 28, 2025, he won "Male Idol Actor of the Year" at the Brand of the Year Awards, recognizing his seamless fusion of idol and acting prowess. JINYOUNG is a fashion darling in K-pop, known for his effortless blend of classic elegance and modern edge. His endorsements stem from his visual appeal and sophisticated style, contributing significantly to his income alongside music and acting. In 2020, he became a Brand ambassador for Tom Ford Beauty and in 2022 he became the ambassador for Narciso Rodriguez Fragrance. In January, 2025, he graced the cover of Star Magazine, emphasizing in the cover story, his "passion to do anything" while modeling sleek, adult-boyhood transitional looks. In August, 2025, he was featured in a GQ Korea pictorial, modelling Brunello Cucinelli, embodying the Italian luxury brand's heritage of refined knitwear and tailoring. In 2025, he also starred in a pictorial preview for Elle Korea with actress Park Bo-young, blending high-fashion editorial with his signature charm.
JINYOUNG is an active philanthropist and in February 2020 he made a donation to support wild animals affected by fires in Australia. In August 2020, he donated ₩20 million to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association to help flood victims in South Korea and in August, 2022, he donated ₩30 million to help those affected by the 2022 South Korean floods through the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. In December 2022, he also donated ₩50 million to One Love Village, a facility for children with severe disabilities. In February, 2023, Jinyoung donated ₩30 million in support of the victims of the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquakes, becoming a member of the Honors Club of Save The Children. On March 26, 2025, the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced JINYOUNG's generous donation of ₩50 million for wildfire relief and firefighter support, and his membership of the Honors Club for achieving a cumulative donation of ₩100 million won. On April 2, the international children's rights NGO Save the Children announced JINYOUNG's donation of ₩30 million won to support children and families affected by the 2025 Myanmar earthquake.
