Fort Lewis earned a much awaited win on Saturday, beating Arizona Christian 17-12 in front of the Skyhawk faithful in Durango.
Fort Lewis’ new weapon, redshirt freshman QB Stone Walker, was just as impressive in the Skyhawks’ 2nd game of the season as he was in their 1st.
🏈 Walker completed 60% of his passes for 124 yards and a TD. On the ground, Walker contributed an additional 57 yards and ran one in for a TD.
In the passing attack, Walker received help from:
🏈 Jamille Humphrey, who had 3 receptions for 54 yards, &
🏈 Christopher Thomas Jr., who had 4 receptions for 40 yards and a TD.
🏈 Jamal Johnson contributed in the Shyhawks’ rushing game, gaining 57 yards on 10 carries.
The Skyhawks’ defense was just as impressive as Walker and the offense, holding Arizona Christian to just 239 yards of total offense (128 rushing and 111 passing). Leading the way were:
🏈 Jacob Penney, 14 Tackles (6 Solo & 8 Ast);
🏈 Jack Hanenburg, 7 Tackles (5 Solo & 2 Ast) with 2 1/2 Tackles For Loss, including 1 1/2 Sacks; &
🏈 Walter Stauffer, 6 Tackles (3 Solo & 3 Ast), including half of a Sack.
With Stone Walker and the culture Coach Cox is implementing in Durango, this Fort Lewis team is going to be fun to watch this season!
